It's still hilarious af. Though their latest song "Tickle War" might be even funnier especially if you get the references from their guest vocalists.

Honestly it just sounds like they're trying too hard to be controversial or offensive.

Actually, pretty much the entire genre sounds like that.

That was back in '92, the same year when Cannibal Corpse released their Tomb of the Mutilated and everyone knows how tryhard song titles that album had. I Cum Blood and Necropedophile come to mind. Also if those titles sound too silly, may I interest you in a more "serious" Impaled Nazarene song.

Black metal. It's basically the go-to for edgelords who want to be outrageously offensive and controversial, and yet ironically favor obscurity.

Such lovely opinions about black metal, and I am reading them while listening to Venom's debut album Welcome To Hell. But hey, now we know what the Young Republicans think about extreme metal.

Your approach towards certain metal and hardcore subgenres seems to be rather conservative, hence my assumption.

There was a guy on the monthly outdoors music market with a lot of interesting metal cd's, they were only five euros each. Got Venom's debut and a bunch of other titles. It would be nice if he would show up on the next music market, because he had more Venom titles and also a nice selection of classic Black Sabbath.

I never said it was all like that, just that the genre was the go-to for those types of musicians and music fans like them. I didn't even say it represented the majority.

I'm just gonna patch up this shitstorm a bit by talking about Therion.

I've been listening to a lot of Les Fleurs, as you all know, but I've also really gotten into Gothic Kabbalah as well. The songs that I once considered filler seem less like it the more I listen, and I've gotten to the point where I appreciate the album as a whole. Reviews seem to be either "I love it" or "this isn't as good as what they've done but good enough by itself I guess."

It seems the top three for the average Therion fan are Sirius B, Vovin, and Theli. I've heard songs off of Vovin and Theli, and I've decided I'm going to listen to Vovin from start to finish at some point soon, because the individual songs I've heard probably don't do it justice. I'm assuming it's an album that's meant to be listened to in order, as a whole. Theli's got songs I already really enjoy, though, so I'm probably going to love it no matter what once I get around to listening to the whole thing.

Sirius B is one I haven't heard anything off of though, and I decided to just listen through the whole thing. Truly, it's quite incredible. I need to give it one more listen before I can say too much but with a track like Blood of Kingu, and the intensity of the guitar riffs, it's definitely a great album. But I still love Kabbalah and Les Fleurs, and I feel like it's unfair to compare them even to each other, let alone Sirius B, because of line-up differences or differences in themes.

Please, call me POLSKA

You say Therion, I say Fleshgod Apocalypse. The Italian band I'm speaking of is absolutely amazing. The opera death metal of Fleshgod Apocalypse reminds me of Hollenthon and Haggard, but also Therion if they had decided to stay more true to their death metal roots instead of recycling relatively easy listening Manowar riffs. Fans of the more recent albums of Dimmu Borgir should also be able to appreciate the classical bombast that comes so naturally to Fleshgod Apocalypse whenever they decide to write new songs. Epic stuff.

To be fair Therion was death metal originally yes, but I feel like Therion's rooted in symphonic metal, not death, though they certainly can pull it off quite well.

Can you give me an album or two I'd enjoy by them, given what I like?

I remember reading something in the past about how Leif Edling said he was influenced by Accept, but I never really saw many similarities until I heard Princess of the Dawn.

Also apparently Candlemass did a tour in '89 for Tales of Creation with King Diamond and Savatage, which sounds like it kicked ass.
