So I got myself mono. Going on my second week of being a useless bag of human tissues and fluids with swollen lymph nodes so hopefully I'll be back to normal in a few days. Shooting for that minimum of two weeks of illness.

I slept about thirteen hours last night and I'm feeling okay today after a lot of tea and laying around, still swollen with a sore throat and a headache but at least I'm not knocked out yet. So since I haven't been listening to my Russian folk metal for a worrisome while now, guess what I'll be listening to when I do manage to stay awake and in somewhat good humor :p

I also found Рви меха's Bandcamp and I am a very happy camper. I just can't headbang so well because my neck is kinda fucked with the swollen lymph node and aching and all.

One of my favorite things about Beneath the Remains other than the Seven Churches and Scream Bloody Gore worship is that the experimentation isn't terrible and fits with the album. Listening to this for the first time in 7 years I can't see why it's taken me so long to listen to it again (other than Cavalera's slightly above mediocre vocals). The rhythm work outside of a few riffs is nothing ground breaking. Some good solos and I guess the consistent simplicity is what makes this a great album.

Well Dimmy has a live album coming out with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (or something along that line) and promised that it's not the only thing they're doing this year. Which means either FINALLY a new album or a tour.

A little late, but my best album of 2016...and also the only full album I listened to in fact, was Titancraft. So it wins by default.

Go listen to Vektor, like, right now.

Just to see him fly

With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But we don't know why
Ooh, now where do we go

Can't say I was disappointed by the last few Dimmu Borgir albums, since I actually like neo-classical black metal bombast.

I prefer early Dimmu but still find all their albums at least passable. When it comes to what lots of people call the two "posers" of black metal, I kind of prefer Cradle of Filth.

He only likes clean vocals.

Same. I still love Abrahadabra - such a crazy fun album. Also the very first black metal album I ever liked back in early 2011. I cant believe it's been seven years since that came out. Yeah, Dimmu are due for a new one. So I'm actually looking forward to it.

Some big understatements there imo. Top 3 thrash albums of all time for me. Unwaveringly excellent energy and intensity, great thrashing riff after riff, EXTRAORDINARY solos. And addictive melodic moments that provide perfect breathing room between the pummeling.

Even by my standards that sounds fanboyish. BTR might be in my top 10 thrash albums but compared to the rest of my list Cavalera's vocals are terrible ONLY by comparison.
Violent Restitution- Razor
Speak English or Die- Stormtroopers of Death
Handle With Care- Nuclear Assault
Seven Churches- Possessed
Metal Church- Metal Church
Endless Pain- Kreator
Rust in Peace- Megadeth
Morbid Tales/Emperor's Return- Celtic Frost
Executioner- Meltdown

Speaking of Sepultura, Sepultura A.C.A.Q. released a new album today.

It's not really fanboyism, I just think the music is great. I mean, I guess everyone is a "fanboy" of their favorite albums, whatever they may be. Beneath The Remains isn't perfect (the last two songs are a step below the rest) but it's still a magnificent piece of adrenaline-pumping metal. Arise and Chaos AD are the only other Sepultura albums I really care about. (Haven't heard Schizophrenia yet).

I don't really go looking for albums. I find a band on YouTube, I marathon a few songs if they're good, get bored and do something else. Also, this was the first new album they'd put out since I found them in 2015. So I binged the thing.

I recommend going out looking for albums. Or having some sort of watchlist like RYM where upcoming releases from bands will be on your front page.

A band that chances are most of you will not like but I do, the down-tempo deathcore band Traitors, broke up recently. Sad. Unlike most deathcore bands now they (a) did something a little different and (b) actually created a legit emotion through music even if it's the kind of predictable "ANGRY" feeling, they fuckin' did it well.

Can't say I really miss them. I've only listened to Lords of the Wasteland. While there were good songs like Under the Scavenger Sun and Clash of the Two Tribes, it really didn't make me go "I need more!".
