Amorphis said in an interview than since they haven't toured North America in so long, they're going to make it a wide-ranging setlist that hits all the classics in addition to the newer material. So I'm pretty stoked. Seeing them with Nike and Overkill too would make for an amazing line-up if you have the chance (I've been wanting to hear Nile live for a long time), though it will probably be less comprehensive than their headlining setlist.

As for Katatonia, I hope they play some Viva Emptiness and Great Cold Distance songs. A surprise or two from December Souls would put me over the fucking moon, but I don't really expect them to.

Katatonia won't be doing any death/doom songs judging by their European tour setlist from last year but they always play Evidence, Leaders, My Twin, July, and HOPEFULLY Criminals. It'll probably be mostly stuff from the last 3 albums but the above four are pretty much guaranteed.

Nile is alright live. They don't exactly have a unique sort of presence but they replicate their studio work fairly well. I saw them at Summer Slaughter last year.

Fuck yeah, those are among my favorites. I love almost all of the songs on those two albums, so really any combinations of picks from them would be fine with me. "Evidence" and "Leaders" are musts though. I wonder if they ever play "Burn the Remambrance" or "Rusted".

As for the last three albums, my personal picks would be "Hypnone", "Lethean" and "The Parting".

Cool cool. I can't recall it at the moment, but I'm pretty sure "Dead Letters" was among my favorites from Dead End Kings. Another song I just remembered that would be cool to hear live is "A Premonition". Or "Will I Arrive". Hell, I would splash major cash to see the Viva Emptiness concept album performed beginning to end in its entirety. With a couple December Souls songs as interludes. Now THAT would be my ideal Katatonia concert

Funny how all of your picks are Dead End Kings. Chances are they'll also play Forsaker and Nephilim (and MAYBE The Longest Day) from NITND, and will definitely do Serein, Old Heart Falls, Serac, and Last Song Before the Fade from TFOH.

Yeah, Dead End Kings their only release since TGCD that has truly resonated with me.

I'll need to relisten to Fall of Hearts a couple times before March. IIRC, Serac was one of the only songs I really liked. Forsaker is a pretty good song from NITND, but it's been a while since I've listened to that album too.

So I just scored a good 25-30 records from my grandparents and step-father's collections that had been moved to my mom's place and were just gathering dust. No metal in them so feel free to ignore but I did get an OG press of Stand Up by Jethro Tull and a bajillion Sinatra and Herb Alpert records. Also helped my aunt fulfill a bucket list by getting the soundtrack to Doctor Zhivago, the movie with a character she was named after.

Just last week, JT's Heavy Horses was the first record I ever bought! I've been slowly working my way through their discography. Stand Up is next on my list to listen to.

25-30 records though, wow. That's a major score. My collection is currently.....3. And none are metal yet.

The best songs on Arktis by Ihsahn are Disassembled, South Winds, and Pressure, I think.

My least favorites are Until I Too Dissolve (Just too...something for me), and Til To Ulven (Not really bad, I'm just not a fan of long spoken word segments).

Album as a whole is good, though.

Concur. It was one of the better tracks. I liked its more rockin' vibe with those guitar riffs and solo. A nice variance from how serious and experimental most of the album was.

But my favorites were In The Vaults, Frail, Crooked Red Line, and My Heart Is Of The North.

Yay, agreement! :p Dat addicting vocal part at the end of "In The Vaults", amirite?

After relistening to Arktis yet again, I'm torn as to whether to bump it from 7 to 8. It's right on my line.

EDIT: Ok, it's an 8. Another thing I just noticed is how "Pressure" sounds like later Emperor at the end.

You ever listen to an album and say "there's no way I liked this album this much" then you re-listen to it and say "Oh yeah I really love this album"? I do that once a month with World Extermination.

I listened Veter Daemonaz's "Triumph" EP recently. Black Metal is off to a good start in 2017.

Any other albums confirmed for this year that people are looking forward to? I know Overkill and Ayreon are both supposed to release early-ish 2017.

I don't know a single metal album I care about (Yet) for 2017.

In all honesty, I don't know many period.

I can make guesses for who is likely to release something (Ahem, Sigur Ros, with a new song and video and all like half a year ago), but that's about it.
