Long before nu-metal there were already prominent bands who combined rap with heavy rock, such as Run-DMC, the Beastie Boys, Urban Dance Squad and Faith No More.

I have to say, I don't really like metal music. My sister loves it, though.

The only metal band I really like is Sabaton, but that's the only metal band my sister doesn't like... it's quite the conundrum.

That must be inconvenient

If you like Sabaton then I recommend Iron Saviour - fairly similar sound.

Impossible. No one can dislike Sabaton. They're amazing.

May I also recommend Civil War (formed by former Sabaton members), Powerwolf (love their stuff and their singer is phenomenal) or if Sabaton are not Sabaton enough, we'll have to go for Sabadu.

To be fair, most of the Beasties stuff with hard rock guitars was on the first album. They later went big into really different sounding beats to avoid being pigeonholed.

Biohazard and a load of other NYC bands delved into tough guy moshcore with rapped parts, I'm pretty sure RATM are basically that with a political slant who just happened to get big alongside nu-metal bands. Limp Bizkit might be to that stuff as Creed was to grunge (the southern butt rock version).

So, unrelated, does anyone know any 90s thrash or death metal stuff with long sections of isolated guitars (no drums, no vocals)? My brain is completely blank at the moment but I trust this pool of experts.

There actually are a lot of people that dislike Sabaton. And to be honest with their image and lyrics and pretty easily digestible music they are a fairly easy target for that, too.

Just as a disclaimer: I've been following the band since before their debut album, so I am not a disliker ;)

Sabaton as a commercial concept is pretty much based upon considering the music of Iron Maiden to be too complex and intricate for the modern juvenile metal fan, so it was decided to simplify matters in order to make it more palatable for those who want to pretend to be hard & heavy while playing safe at the same time.

Yeah, except none of that is true as they sound nothing like Iron Maiden.

You should have seen discussions I've had with die-hard fans over negative reviews I wrote, it is astounding. To some people a band cannot do any wrong, no matter how much the album sucks and how much constructive criticism you pack into the review, and they will defend their belief to death. Well, maybe not that far, but still. Latest example was the last Sonata Arctica album. It's been a while that I received as much flak for my opinion, it is kind of headshakingly amusing.
