Better yet, ease yourself into it by listening to bands like Scar Symmetry that have both "beautiful" vocals and growls side-by-side

I 100% recommend Agalloch to people who think beautiful music can't have growls.

I'm not entirely against growling. Like, if it's the backup vocalist growling I can sometimes tolerate that depending on what they sound like and what the main vocalist sounds like. I enjoy Brothers of Metal and Amaranthe, the former of which has a backup vocalist who growls while the latter has three vocalists - two clean, one unclean. Both have beautiful female vocals.

Tbh, most of the folk metal I heard today was pretty 'Meh'. I even had to skip one song - a Korpiklaani song, no less - because it was so boring I was actually yawning. Biggest highlight was with Alestorm (if you count them as folk metal) and Tyr; both of which I'm already familiar with. Only other names I recognized were Alkonost, Eluveitie, and one other band that I can't remember the name of right now. Their songs were better than the others, so they're not in the 'Meh' category.

How does Eluveitie, a Swiss Celtic Metal band that largely sings songs about ancient Gaul and its mythology, factor into this blanket statement? You're already proven wrong and that is just one example.

Sabaton is power metal. If you like them, I imagine you'd dig bands like Enforcer, Iron Savior and Skiltron.

Hmm... my first taste of metal was rather embarrassingly DragonForce in the mid 2000s, all because of Guitar Hero. Now I find myself playing some older stuff like Metaliica or Skid Row every so often. Wait, is Skid Row even metal, or do they just count as hard rock?

Gloryhammer is awesome too; I highly recommend Helloween as well.

Also Amaranthe (be warned they do have some unclean vocals at times), DragonForce, Metallica, Blind Guardian, Manowar, Tyr, Korpiklaani (it's all in Finnish though), Brothers of Metal (also some unclean vocals at times), Judas Priest, Powerwolf, Dio, Rhapsody of Fire, Ghost (though they've been getting awfully "poppy" lately), Lacuna Coil, and Nightwish.

Not all those are like Sabaton, but most of them are similar at least in sound and style. You're actually starting off great with Sabaton, though I might be totally biased in that regard because they're my favorite band.

Dragonforce did an outstanding cover of one Death metal's oldest and most iconic songs so...

A song made by my favorite band no less. Even if it is their most overrated.

None of this is in Finnish.

Their first two albums were all in English with one song in Finnish. Third album was 50/50, fourth, fifth and sixth albums had two songs in English. Only the last four albums have been all in Finnish, but one of them has an all English version.
