I'm enjoying the new Thy Catafalque album a lot and the ambivalent response to it from some of the critics is bullshit. It's more focused than previous stuff without being less experimental and spending time letting good musical ideas play out for a bit isn't boring or repetitive, it's atmospheric you mongrels.

Sounds like I might actually enjoy it more than some of their past work. I often wished they would bounce around a little less and let the cool sections shine more.

So, the 16th note triplet groove in Zero Tolerance is still one of my all-time favorite rhythm guitar parts. Now if only I could play it in time...

I can't even sit here and move my wrist to that rhythm, let alone strum it on a guitar...

Ok, that is just too perfect... Closing this poll NOW.

EDIT: And new one up! Good timing for this question too.

triplet-triplet-triplet-triplet...etc.

It's not a hard rhythm, just hard to play fast.

Well, yeah, obviously I meant at that speed. :p

As for the poll, it was tough for me to choose after my top two, which are "Raining Blood" and "Mandatory Suicide". Nearly every song on Reign In Blood could conceivably have taken third, but I ended up going with "Dead Skin Mask" just because it came up on shuffle earlier today and really jived me since I've been reading a lot about serial killers lately (don't ask).

Fair enough. :P

I ended up going with Raining Blood and War Ensemble for my first two. My third was actually South of Heaven.

Spotify came up good today with its new release recommendation.

Check out Follow The Cipher's self-titled album for some synth-heavy power metal that has enough meat in the chug and strong enough vocals to end up somewhere more interesting than the cheese vats. It's unapologetically towards the light end of the market but it's pretty good.

Also, your request is hard to meet because I don't know what you already like and "death and doom" metal is a very broad request.
