Holy shit, I am entirely sold on that first song. I wasn't sure what to expect, but that mix is great in the first song. Going to have to listen to more of this.

This is about the only other one I know that incorporates electronic music, and this goes more into the "blackgaze" realm.

It's a thing I'm increasingly seeing crop up. In most cases it comes across as gimmicky or memey, so it's nice to see it done seriously. Because it makes sense. Blackgaze and the lighter side of atmospheric black often play on the tension between epic buildups that evoke nostalgic moods and the more harsh atmospheres of the metal side. With Mesarthim's focus on space the electronics reference older cosmic-themed music and the light/dark contrast works with the whole "space is cool and pretty but utterly deadly" angle as well. It doesn't come off as novelty or avant-garde - to me, at least - because the associations just make sense.

So I seem to go through periods of my life that last a couple months or so in terms of what music I listen to. I’ve been in a very atmospheric/shoegaze sort of vibe lately but I’ve been feeling a bit more aggressive lately so I went back to Rotting’s Crushed. I remember when I was first recommended it on here, had some very good parts early on but I remember somewhere at the 10-11 minute mark was neckbreaking territory. What a great album.
