Listening to Jute Gyte's new EP. Very cool, sounds a lot more minimalistic than Perdurance. Easier to listen to.

yes but we weren't talking about the poll. We're talking about poor Dark Tranquility

Which is because they didn't get any votes in the poll. And hell, I personally think Entombed and EoS' best releases are both much better than DT's best.

Holy shit I think I figured out the Slayer problem. An album was whispering in my skull and I decided to listen to it for the first time. After listening to most of it I realized what the Slayer problem is. Review explaining the Slayer problem will likely be up tomorrow.

I've finished it. The revelation came a few songs into the album.

I boosted the mids on my amp significantly (they were already at a reasonable level, not scooped at all), and my tone got 50x more powerful-sounding. The difference is huge, and my bass and treble compliment it. I need a new battery for my tube screamer but after this tweak it sounds metal as fuck without any pedals.

I use an H&K Tubemeister by the way, because German engineering > American & British amps

I'm currently working on saving up for either a Laney AOR, Sovtek, or H&K. They all can sound amazing.

Last I checked, there was a sweet limited edition white AOR from the 80's. I would have bought it in a heartbeat if I had the money.

This looks great, but even assuming I could afford the $2500 price tag, I would have to drive across the country to pick it up.

I know we don't talk about deathcore in these here parts, but please hear me out. This year we've seen a fair bit of evolution in the genre despite...a certain band...shitting all over the place, which isn't really that different from the rest of their repertoire.

Fit For An Autopsy - Heads Will Hang (from the album The great Collapse): Uses the unapologetically annoying chugs to their benefit by creating an apocalyptic sort of atmosphere. Also, they pull the From Mars to Sirius style of "melodic" growls combined with rough singing, and their lyrical themes are pretty much all centered around the environment and destruction of mankind. The Gojira influence could not be more obvious.

Lorna Shore - Fvneral Moon (from the album Flesh Coffin): I saw these guys open for Carnifex last month and they absolutely killed it. Instead of just throwing in generic death metal riffs and breakdowns, their guitar work is more centered around black metal, particularly in terms of sinister background melodies not unlike Deathspell Omega or later Emperor. There's also a fair share of technicality.

Within the Ruins - Objective Reality (from the album Halfway Human): If you're open to progressive death metal with metalcore AND neoclassical influences in vein of Born of Osiris or After the Burial, this is for you. Doing the clean vocals right as SECONDARY to the main growls. Yes, this is djenty but very melodic and full of lead guitar flourishes.

Last week, I've been really getting into deathcore (I've listened to a lot of deathcore in my high school days, decided to revisit it). Lorna Shore is just perfect for me right now, seeing as I'm a massive black metal hipster nowadays.

Carnifex themselves are really blackened as of late too. Their vocalist used to be in a local black metal band, uses a minimalist style of corpse paint, and the liner sheets of their 2014 album Die Without Hope show him with a Wolves in the Throne Room shirt which is fucking awesome. He's spoken frequently about being influenced by Watain, Dark Funeral, Immortal, Darkthrone, Dissection, Cradle of Filth, and Emperor.
