Your point? You've read the Pokédex, haven't you?

That thing most fans treat as non canon because it's ridiculous? Pokémon as hot as the sun? Pokémon as smart as supercomputers enslaved by ten year olds?

I don't think you understand what the word "canon" means. I'll give you a hint: fans don't have any say in it.

There's something of a dissonance in posting a long fan theory and then making a strict appeal to canon.

Anyways it may be canon but it's also quiet ignorable. It's not connected to anything. It's never cited as a source for other canon. Knowledge of it is never required for gameplay. What's the point in bringing it up anyways? Most people don't point to it as an example of good lore.

Most fans actually do believe Pokedex entries to be canon, and a lot of them are actually pretty interesting.

Canon for the most part but the science is absurdly questionable. Macargo would be blinding to even glance at. The poxedex entries aren't that consistent across mediums either.

Not at all. A trap too many people fall into is to assume that creating fanon means that canon is no longer important. In fact, it is just the opposite. Good fanon requires an even stricter basis in canon. Good fanon fills in the holes without altering anything. It answers questions without creating contradictions. Most people don't seem to get that, and most people make dumbass fan theories or assume that ignoring things is kosher.

This is a world in which animals conjure magical powers and a handheld device can safely contain the energy of a couple hundred nukes. Science is taken loosely, at best. Also, it being canon doesn't necessarily mean it's factual. The Pokédex clearly references myth and urban legends, so it is inherently unreliable. These facts could be an exaggeration.

Oh, and the most important thing of all: it doesn't even matter if the Pokédex is truthful. My theory was called out as being too dark for Pokémon. I refuted that by referencing something in the games that is much darker. Even if it's all pure lies, it's still in the game. All those entries about kidnapping and murdering children are still there, along with the rest.

Olthar made this about canon. My point was that it was ignorable. Canon can be ignorable.

It's not like every entry is awful but a lot of fans roll their eyes on some of the more extreme ones. Ever hear the fan theory that the pokedex is actually written by the protagonist and is silly at times because the protagonist is a kid?

This theory brings up a lot of questions that I have about the protagonist in Sun/Moon... Especially about Salazzle.
Where must we go, we who wander this wasteland, in search for our better selves?
In Egypt's sandy silence, all alone,
Stands a gigantic Leg, which far off throws
The only shadow that the Desert knows:—
"I am great OZYMANDIAS," saith the stone,
"The King of Kings; this mighty City shows
"The wonders of my hand." The City's gone,
Nought but the Leg remaining to disclose
The site of this forgotten Babylon.

We wonder, and some Hunter may express
Wonder like ours, when thro' the wilderness
Where London stood, holding the Wolf in chace,
He meets some fragment huge, and stops to guess
What powerful but unrecorded race
Once dwelt in that annihilated place.

Pokemon is also the world with actual psychics who can teleport themselves and witches who can turn people into Pokemon. The Pokedex itself also doesn't make sense and I don't believe that the theory that the protagonists write the entries does a good job of justifying it. There are some things in the Pokedex that would make no sense for a child to know or learn about a Pokemon after just encountering and catching one.

Unless, of course, we assume the protagonists are liars who make things up (they are only about 10 to 15 years old) and reused entries are just stored information made up by previous characters.
Hey, it is Parhe :D I am always open to telegrams.
I know it is a Work-In-Progress, but I would love it if y'all looked at my new factbook and gave me some feedback!

So, I'm playing Platinum, and I already have all six of my teammates on this playthrough. I just got my Gallade, my Piloswine is level 27, my Gabite is level 35, my Haunter is level 18, my Crobat is level 34, and my precious little Umbreon is level 35.
I don't know how long I'll be back, but I just thought I'd stop in and say hi, at least.

I'm breeding up mareeps, dedennes, and larvestas to trade away in my Moon version. Anything under Relatively Superior potential gets released outright. Throw a TG my way if you want one. I'll accept anything, but I'd be thrilled stupid for a deerling or noibat.
I can also breed up R.S./Outstanding totodiles, dratinis, and goomies if anyone wants those. Can't promise any specific IVs though.

I'm down to receive a mareep or larvesta, if I'm being frank. I'd be happy to trade away any degree of rare pokemon that I'll be importing into Sun from my OR. I'll telegram you with some examples.
