Some of those are definitely worth a save.

I'm not gonna lie here, at least 85% of the decision making process to choose my starter is always the aesthetic design of the starter and its final form. Good thing for me, virtually all of the good looking ones to me are good.

Btw, this makes mudkip and popplio the best starters (also love me a turtwig).

That tended to be my criteria as well, and the main reason I chose fire types most of the time. Gen 1 didn't have many good water types.

Gyarados was shit until Gen IV fixed it, and Poliwrath has always been painfully mediocre. Also, you forgot to mention Lapras, a.k.a. the best Gen I water type.

Oh yeah, Lapras. Personally, I tend to like rock and electric types more than water types.

I'm talking about children, not manchildren (even if that is appropriate, too). The primary demographic for Pokémon has and will always be kids. We may still like it, but we are not the audience they care about.
