God of the New World?

Postby Infected Mushroom » Sun Sep 25, 2016 12:31 pm

Let us discuss the following hypothetical.

Death Note is real. The notebook of death is real. If you write someone's name in the notebook, they will die of a heart attack (or in any other way specified by the writer). A student calling himself "Kira" has this notebook; he is using this notebook to execute violent criminals on a daily basis. Years have passed and many criminals have died. The police are trying to catch him. "Kira" has gained a cult following and many see him as a god of justice in the new world. Ever since Kira's activities have begun, wars have stopped and crime has gone down by over 70 percent.

The world has become divided between those voices that support Kira (some seeing him as a god of justice who has created a safer world and will eradicate crime) and those who oppose him, believing he is a threat to the rule of law and democracy.

In such a world, politically, would you support or oppose Kira?

Please explain.

The results speak for themselves (crime has gone down) so clearly, its working. And since God himself seems to have no problems with a world where violent crimes exist, I am perfectly okay with replacing him with a new god. I would have no problem declaring Kira the god of the new world.

Kira must be stopped, captured, put on trial for murder, and the notebook destroyed. No man has the right to this sort of power over the lives of billions of other people. Especially when he uses it for extrajudicial killings.

He has broken the law, and killed people.

Whether or not this was for the greater good is irrelevant. He must answer for his crimes.

I wouldn't support Kira, that bastard's killing innocents.

Thank goodness the Shinigami that gave Kira his death note will end up killing Kira.

Kill him, eventually he will start killing people based off of whether or not they are "capable of committing crime".

OP specifies that Kira only kills the guilty, therefore I support him.
If 1% of Kira's victims are innocent, I might let it slide.
If 30% are innocent, I oppose.

Obviously I want the Book for myself. But as long as Kyra hangs the people I want to hang....

Kira didn't just kill violent criminals, and yes I'd be opposed to some maniac extrajudicially mass murdering for perceived wrongs.

Is Kira both omniscient and omnibenevolent?

If you were God, and you could decide:

Kill person A, which has not committed a crime yet, but looks like he may in the future, or let Persons B and C, which will be killed if Person A commits the crime.

Add extremely self-righteous and arrogant to the God and I think you got a utilitarian society led by Kira.

Where does Kira get his information from? At some point it could become bias, or misinformed.

I take comfort knowing I do not exist in such a Mary Sue Munchkin world.
Crimes committed by Muslims will be a pan-Islamic plot and proof of Islam's inherent evil. On the other hand crimes committed by non-Muslims will merely be the acts of loners who do not represent their belief system at all.
The probability of one's participation in homosexual acts is directly proportional to one's public disdain and disgust for homosexuals.
If a political figure makes an accusation of wrongdoing without evidence, odds are probable that the accuser or an associate thereof has in fact committed the very same act, possibly to a worse degree.

Sounds like an assumption.

Considering, I recently finished watching Death Note, here's my take. At first, when I began watching the show several years ago, I fuckin' loved Kira. Kira was cool because he was an intelligent guy with no real friends who wanted to make the world a better place......At first anyway. Eventually, he became a total douchenozzle and started killing innocents and this and that. When I began to dislike Kira, I also acquired the opinion of being against the death penalty (most of the time) and against vigilante "justice" as well. Ultimately, I would be against Kira. He's a power-hungry megalomaniac and needs to be in stripes. Or
Lying down on a a stair case in a pool of his own blood.

"Kira" is usually a woman's name...

Are you trying and failing to generalize something about a fictional story to avoid having this thread punted over to F7 or something?

It's the phonetization of "killer".

Whoops, too late. Someone wrote this thread's name in the Arts and Fiction Note.
