Speaking of the Cosmic Era, have you seen the new design of the main character's MS for Gundam SEED Eclipse? The Gundam Eclipse looks somewhat fine, but then it can "transform" into a ridiculous-looking fighter craft with its legs sticking straight out front like it's pulling a yoga pose.

After watching both SEED and SEED Destiny, I'm not really sure I want to bother with this new series or C.E. 73 Stargazer; at least the Gunpla kits from that side story are kind of cool, I guess.

I guess you gotta follow story set by novel author.
Then again in novels human bits were much later in series, than what was edited into anime IIRC.

Funny you mention that, since I decided to finally tackle the original series after years of procrastinating. I've gotta say, if I didn't love the franchise already, all that stock footage, slow pacing, and forgettable-to-annoying side characters makes this show not very appealing compared to later series.

I appreciate the entire fictional world the 1970s show spawned, but I admit it's pretty dated from what I've watched so far.

Yeah 79 Gundam is hella rough. The three compilation films from the 80s are probably the best way to get into the UC, in fact, depending on how early you are, I'd say just stop and watching the three films and get onto Zeta Gundam, or one of the side stories of the OYW like 08th MS Team or Thunderbolt, ASAP

While Zeta Gundam is definitely better, I'd argue the original is still worth watching for the impact it had if nothing else.

Your Rick Dias flag is persuading me that Zeta is a series worth watching; it's hard understanding the whole Federation/Titans/AEUG situation and where Char fits into it all just from what little info I know from Gunpla blurbs and other supplemental material.
Still slowly working my way through the OG series, too; it's honestly okay once I've gotten used to its age, but it's definitely not a masterpiece by any means.

Unrelated to Gundam, but I'm wondering if that Love is War OVA is worth watching; from what I've heard it's basically pure ecchi and not much else.

I can definitely recommend Zeta! I agree about the original series too to be honest - it certainly shows it’s age and there has been better series made since, but at the same time it’s perfectly watchable and has had a huge impact on the medium itself.

Touché, although to be fair the Gerwalk mode isn't the primary nor only alternate mode of the variable fighters; they've got the fully-upright Battroid mode too, which looks reasonable enough.

Yeah there's a fair argument Gundam 79 is one of if not the most important anime series and for that reason alone it should be watched, but for someone who isn't already a mecha fan, it would be a hard sell.

I'm not if I'm at fault at extrapolating from advert blurb or if that advert blurb about series was misleading, but I knew about Spider-isekai before anime begin/was announced, but somehow that LN blurb gave me image of much less high stakes series.
Well high states from spider's POV but not high stakes from world's POV. And now I wonder if this was common expectation. lol

I watched first ep of Genshiken's anime adaption and somehow this feels like while it was fun to read in manga form, this is going to be chore as anime.

Hathaway's Flash is going straight to Netflix on July 1st.

Shame, I was hoping it would come out as a fathom event cause a lot of my local theaters hold them. (And I hear it's utterly unbelievable and enthralling on the big screen)

I've seen Build Fighters, IBO, SEED Destiny, and 00 as well, but I think thanks to the OVAs I prefer the Universal Century by a longshot.

Like most Americans, my first exposure to Gundam was when Gundam Wing was shown on Toonami, and I've been hooked ever since.

Superior Defender Gundam Force on Toonami. Yeah...

Funny thing, when Toonami started airing promos for Seed, me at the time was adamant that "That's not Gundam!", cause Gundam was supposed to be a chibi cartoon with horrible CG animation and sentient mechs.

Oof

Also, shoutout to the 08th MS Team, which had one of the most hype promos from Toonami.

The only shows I ever watched on Toonami was Duel Masters and Transformers: Energon of all things. Not sure if it was the sheer mediocrity of both shows or the fact I only caught them occasionally as a kid, but I started watching anime online soon afterwards and never looked back.
