Funny you mention that, since I decided to finally tackle the original series after years of procrastinating. I've gotta say, if I didn't love the franchise already, all that stock footage, slow pacing, and forgettable-to-annoying side characters makes this show not very appealing compared to later series.

I appreciate the entire fictional world the 1970s show spawned, but I admit it's pretty dated from what I've watched so far.

Yeah 79 Gundam is hella rough. The three compilation films from the 80s are probably the best way to get into the UC, in fact, depending on how early you are, I'd say just stop and watching the three films and get onto Zeta Gundam, or one of the side stories of the OYW like 08th MS Team or Thunderbolt, ASAP

If I can recall correctly, the first Gundam show I ever watched was actually Reconguista after picking up a Gunpla model from the series at a convention. The first UC series I saw was the 8th MS Team, which entertained me enough to try out Unicorn and Thunderbolt (in that order).

I've seen Build Fighters, IBO, SEED Destiny, and 00 as well, but I think thanks to the OVAs I prefer the Universal Century by a longshot.

Technically the first UC series you saw was Reconguista. :P

The UC and RC are the same timeline, just different calendars.

Seriously? Perhaps the sheer mediocrity of the show made me numb to any connections they made to the OG series...

At least the model kits were pretty sweet; I still have the G-Arcane that got me into Gundam in the first place sitting somewhere in my closet.

Like most Americans, my first exposure to Gundam was when Gundam Wing was shown on Toonami, and I've been hooked ever since.

I've never actually seen Wing before; got a preference between dub or sub?

Also, the first anime I ever watched was Zoids on Cartoon Network, which is funny since that was also my very first mecha show as well; I still hold a soft spot for it to this day.

The dub is nostalgic, but the sub has better acting overall, plus the Char Clone, Zechs Merquise, is voiced by the legendary Takehito Koyasu so that alone is worth the sub, in my opinion.

The Liger Zero is so cool, but I have always had a fondness for the grub-machines.

By grub-machines, are you talking about the Molga? Those things were pretty cute.

I actually have two Molga model kits for some reason, but they're buried in my basement with all my other old Zoids toys.

I don't know why I dragged it so long, and for moment I thought I'd carry it to end due to sunken cost of getting to episode 8, but I decided to drop shitty full dive mmo. lol

I have finally gotten the chance to try one of the most famous beverages in anime: Calpico! (Also humorously known as Calpis Water in Japanese)

I tried regular, peach, and lychee. Regular tasted good, kinda like orange juice except replacing the tart/sour flavor with sweetness (So like an orange cream candy). Peach was similar except it was a bit sweeter and had a slight sour tang. And Lychee sucked, it tasted like plastic flowers or maybe perfume, don't recommend it.

Version of Slime 300 that's exactly same that they're having now, except Azusa's hat gets slightly larger in every new scene it's present.

Currently watching Hyouka. Kinda like Saiki K if it wasn't a gag anime, though the manga for this one I'm pretty sure is older.
