I have been discussing Shield Hero with the boyfriend. He loves it but he does admit that it gets pretty confused as it goes on, at least in the web comic.

In the original web comic,

It's revealed that one of the major villains, the "Bitch/Witch", Malty (Melty is another character... Not very good names XD), isn't just a bitch, she is... Possessed by a demon/is an inherently evil, programmed/hive minded flesh construct created by whoever is behind the demonic invasions that are the central conflict of Shield Hero. She has no agency, which, either way, it's a weird move to pull if the author is indeed saying "women are evil temptresses".

What's even more weird is that this was ultimately changed in the manga and anime? In those, Malty is just a psychopath. It's admittedly somewhat problematic that one of the hate sinks is a woman who seduced the protagonist, who also bought himself a replacement girl, but I think that wasn't what the author was going for. Considering everything else about the isekai world of Shield Hero, this all smells more of a condemnation of feudalism, traditionalism, and hierarchical fascism in general. Malty and her father are both spoiled, privileged, wealthy aristocrats who hoarded all the Holy Heroes (Shield, Spear, Bow, etc.), laying claim to them appearing in their country as a power move in service to their country and... Their own monarchy, ultimately; I think it's safe to say that neither Malty nor her father care about their people. Malty is also privileged thanks to being physically attractive. She uses her looks to get her way, and a lot of the time, it's the only thing she has at her disposal, since the world is misogynistic.

In a lot of ways, the world of Shield Hero has similar sexist patriarchal attitudes that are prevalent in Japan, and in the end, they affect both men, women, and everyone in between the spectrum, not to mention the metaphorical racism of speciesism (demi-humans are seen as subhuman and traded as slaves, after all, including in Malty's kingdom).

It's also implied that Malty would have been punished for being so frivolous with her "womanhood", which is ridiculous even in the context of the expectations of monarchs, hence why she resorts to accusing Naofumi of rape in the first place: either she lies and gets to keep her power or she gets tossed out on the street.

The world of Shield Hero isn't meant to be seen as ideal, is my point. Naofumi despises it, he hates himself for being forced to conform, which is why he is so depressed, bitter, and angry all the time.

There's also the child grooming but anyway.

I'm probably just over-thinking this rather mediocre anime XD Shield Hero isn't as bad as other isekai IMO but it's not particularly good either. It's confused, like I said, especially considering that while Naofumi's life starts out pretty bad, his isekai life is becoming increasingly ideal.

How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?, although only one girl actually goes to lose weight; the others are for the most all legit athletes.

Elf-san wa Yaserarenai is more of a legit ecchi series, although it does give some health and fitness advice packaged into its fetish. How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift? is far less fetish fuel and actually has character progression.

It's a little self-absorbed, but I felt an urge to share my top ten favourite anime series. The list is entirely subjective and not meant to be based on the objective quality of any of the series, just how much I personally like them, and the rankings are very fluid.

Feel free to criticise my taste.

I do very much like Noragami (33rd for me) and Demon Slayer (29th). I enjoyed Yu Yu Hakusho back in the day, though lost interest in it later on (188th). I have been trying to actually get through Inuyasha for the fourth or fifth time, but it is a slow trudge. While I acknowledge the excellent writing in Code Geass, it is far too miserable a show for me (203rd). Blue Exorcist suffers a bit from the same syndrome as the first adaptations of Hellsing and Fullmetal Alchemist, but is not bad (63rd). I believe I attempted Fate/Zero once, but if it is the one I remember, I quit after a scene of a young girl being thrown to a pit of bugs with a character implying that they were both eating and molesting her (it was quite a while ago though, so I may be misremembering). The only one of those I have not watched at all is Durarara!!

I have posted my top 13 before, and it has not changed since then - it is still painfully generic:

I used to be anti-anime outside of Dragon Ball, many hours of my teenage years was spent trashing weebs over any social media outlet could get my grubby hands on. Eventually I watched Fullmetal Alchemist and my dislike of anime lessened. I still think it's the same pedo-bait with different colours of paint, but there are a few I've enjoyed.

Yes, that is Fate/Zero. Yes, that is essentially what is happening.
I watched Fate/Zero before going back to read the 2003 visual novel which it's a prequel to, Fate/Stay Night ufotable rendered the room where it happens quite faithfully to the VN so when it turned up while I was reading there was a moment of instant horrifying recognition. I'm slightly less than two thirds of the way through Fate/Stay Night (Close to the end of the second route, Unlimited Blade Works) because it's quite long and properly dark and nasty so it's somewhat hard going. The third and final route is the one that deals with that character in particular. The thought of starting it turns my stomach slightly. I love Fate very much though. It's got a hard edge and a respect for mythology that I find quite irresistible, and Saber is a fantastic character who I spent quite a considerable sum of money to have a figurine of. It's the kind of love that hurts though.
