I've been watching Reincarnated as a Slime and Go-Toubun too. Both are "meh" to me right now, though I've got hope for Go-Toubun once the next episode comes out.

Which brings me to wonder if asking “I mean aren’t there enough ‘lets torture children' series already?“ while following series like Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka requires some sort of cognitive dissonance by yours truly. lol
You can still be kinda over the snuff-lite the likes of Madoka Magica, Magical Girl Raising Project, Magical Girl Site, and Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka gives us while still consuming product. It's just your experience will be lessened by meta knowledge.

Context where I originally made that comment was in context about old hypotheses that Place Futher would've turned into grim survival show once they reach Antarctica. I guess more in those shows that have cutesy outset with grimdark twist at one point. But I guess your comment still stands despite, perhaps Madoka is only one that fits that on that list to my knowledge. Like did those rest even pretend at that. lol
I've not seen but Asuka and Madoka, and Asuka didn't even pretend.

No, because a bunch of writers think the can copy Urobuchi's style without understanding the context of why his work became popular to begin with.

Urobuchi's work often appears nihilistic but there's generally an underlying sense that no matter how fucked up things are maybe, just maybe, one individual doing the right thing can make a difference.

There's a reason why quite a few of the characters, like the Elf and the Goblin Slayer himself don't even have names, because it is, more or less, supposed to be D&D.
