I've been watching Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai recently, and I've been reading the manga too. One of the best romcoms I've ever seen. It's easily within my top 3.

I've been watching Reincarnated as a Slime and Go-Toubun too. Both are "meh" to me right now, though I've got hope for Go-Toubun once the next episode comes out.

Which brings me to wonder if asking “I mean aren’t there enough ‘lets torture children' series already?“ while following series like Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka requires some sort of cognitive dissonance by yours truly. lol

But how can you even have new anime in this day and age if child torture is not an option? You might as well dispose of giant mecha!

Kaguya-sama is some really good stuff. The new episodes on Saturdays are typically the highlight of my week.

You can still be kinda over the snuff-lite the likes of Madoka Magica, Magical Girl Raising Project, Magical Girl Site, and Magical Girl Spec Ops Asuka gives us while still consuming product. It's just your experience will be lessened by meta knowledge.

Context where I originally made that comment was in context about old hypotheses that Place Futher would've turned into grim survival show once they reach Antarctica. I guess more in those shows that have cutesy outset with grimdark twist at one point. But I guess your comment still stands despite, perhaps Madoka is only one that fits that on that list to my knowledge. Like did those rest even pretend at that. lol

Magical Girl Site didn't pretend either, it just jumped into the deep end within the first five minutes.
Magical Raising Project did pretend for a few episodes though.

No, because a bunch of writers think the can copy Urobuchi's style without understanding the context of why his work became popular to begin with.

Urobuchi's work often appears nihilistic but there's generally an underlying sense that no matter how fucked up things are maybe, just maybe, one individual doing the right thing can make a difference.

Also, the time period a lot of his work comes out in affects how it's seen. Like Madoka, which was released in a time where magical girl shows were still seen as shows for little girls where you shouldn't question the internal logic too much because that's not what matters (Compared to what it is now, IE, as overly grimdark edge fest or rife with parodies targeting almost solely otaku).

Been watching a few episodes of Goblin Slayer, because it's best to partake in these things post-hype. I like how the mythology of that fictional world implies that the gods actually do play dice with the universe, AD&D nerds as they apparently are.

I know it's not strictly anime but I have to talk about it. They adapted a 2nd Kamen Rider series to the US and it's so bad.

Like, it's trying to be super dark and edgy even though it still has a TV-Y7 rating, so everyone wears black and are constantly frowning and like 2/3's of the series is at a Dutch Angle to make things seem serious. The fight scenes are terrible too cause most of them are in slow-mo and are constantly cutting to other characters and leaving out how characters got into the situations they did. The intro's pretty decent though, not gonna lie.

It's fascinating how this thing exists.

Hey, what if Hitler sided with Japan not because they were fellow imperialist ultranationalists, but so he could watch anime.
Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.

There's a reason why quite a few of the characters, like the Elf and the Goblin Slayer himself don't even have names, because it is, more or less, supposed to be D&D.

The goblins being absolutely terrible is what makes us sympathize with the ruthless extermination campaign as executed by our hero Goblin Slayer.
