The Japanese language has a texture that isn't replicated by foreign languages, especially in American dubs. There's also a lot that's untranslateable.

Just because you can't translate it literally doesn't mean it's untranslatable.
Besides. I'd put my language getting represented in media somehow before animephile's aesthethic sensibilities.
But given that we only seem to dub children's cartoons, getting dubs for slightly older audience probably won't happen. Unless it's silver screen cartoon.

Unrelated.

Just ordered Nisemonogatari Blu-ray.
I don't know why having to check "This product is 18+. Hopefully you're not buying this for minors" at checkout made me laugh.

I'm watching Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water...again. 'Cause I'm gonna use it's plot as an example for something in a project's chapter. The show is a lot better when you watch it like how Anno intended. Without the useless filler arcs, I mean.

I don't really see what's overrated about it. It's just a realistic depiction of the horrors of war that should reasonably resonate with any human being capable of empathy or compassion.

I guess it WAS a bit presumptuous of me to assume you fell into that group of people. Sorry about that, won't happen again.

It's a depiction of events from a man's ( Akiyuki Nosaka ) life and something akin to what millions and millions of people would have been going through during that time.

It doesn't TRY to be sad. It IS sad. That's the entire point you little psychopath.

Being based on a true story doesn't make it any less of a tryhard and lazy attempt to try and con emotion out of people.

Wtf is wrong with you. The movie was made to keep people from forgetting the horrors their people went through during the war and to tell a a single man's tragic story that puts that helps to put that suffering into perspective.

How is depicting a realistic relationship between a brother and sister who've lost their parents and the tragedy that results due to wartime measures that actually happened tryhard or lazy?

Not really. What's wrong with you is eminently clear. It was more rhetorical and done in order to point out that I believe you have substantial personal issues you need to work out.

Ameriganastan wrote:Didn't make it any less boring.

The movie wasn't supposed to be some exciting swashbuckling adventure. It was supposed to make you realize that in war there are no winners or losers, only victims and that this fact is eminently sad.

Tbf, a sad depressing story is not everyone’s cup of tea. It is why they make better books then movies. A movie is designed to show visuals and actions, and a part of the feeling is lost in its adaption from book to movie. I bet you the book is leagues better then the movie ever could be.

Also movies thrive in a sense of completion or conclusion. I imagine the movie lacked a real sense of conclusion considering what you are implying the content the movie holds.

Maybe if you were capable of providing actual substance behind your inflammatory remarks. Since you're go to is to just say:

"things are this way because I say so."

You tend to just be someone with abnormal viewpoints who themselves doesn't seem to know why they think the things they do. Makes you more pitiable then anything else tbh.

I understand that, but to call something lazy or tryhard because "it's not your cup of tea" is just wrong.

I can't say whether the movie lost any sense of feeling from the book since I've never read it, only that I've never been so sad reading a book as I was watching that movie and I don't think I can become as emotionally invested in the interactions on a page as I can in dialogue being carried out by real people.

The movie ends on a complete note since it's not a 1:1 adaption of the author's own experience as it's semi-autobiographical.

Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.
