Yu-Gi Oh! The Abridged series is the greatest anime ever! Adults playing children's card games FTW!

... In America!

Been rewatching the dubbed version of One Piece's Marineford Arc. It's so good. :)

Now that I've seen Hellsing Ultimate Abridged, I don't think I could ever enjoy the actual show if I ever watch it for real.

Don't worry, there's still Drifters.

I assume you mean the OG anime?

I honestly couldn't get past the first episode.

Yeah, the original. If you don't mind my asking, why didn't you like it?

I'm not really sure. I don't mind older anime, hell, some of my favourites are Fist of the North Star and Akira. On the same vein it wasn't the violence that turned me away. Again, some of my favourite anime are quite gory and violent. The story really didn't capture me, and I didn't find Guts that interesting.

I can see where you're coming from, the story is probably the edgiest/most angsty thing I've ever seen.

Yeah, the first episode is way different from the rest of the anime. With the second episode the story skips back a number of years, and the tone's different from the first episode.

The first episode is different from the rest of the series.

The first ep. is actually from a story that takes place after The Golden Age arc.

Finished arakawa under bridge, the setup is interesting and the comedy was pretty good in some parts thanks to the super random nature of events and some neat characters. It could have had better pacing and some jokes seem to require high levels of belief suspension at times which is perfectly in line with most anime i've watched I suppose.

It's extra fun for those of you who are familiar with the monogatari series, the two main characters in this are also voiced by Araragi and Shinobu's va's. In some ways it seems like a testing ground for some set pieces in monogatari to me. Almost like a mix of Monogatari and Gintama in some respects.

Solid show but it could have been a little bit better in places.

I suppose at first it is similar. Things change though.

Eh Emilia isn't that bad or particularly hot if that's what the hashtag means.

There are some hours in my life I would give anything to swap with watching Haruhi.

What makes one piece worth watching?

Just finished Sola.

That was nice, I guess. The first few episodes were slow as hell though.

Be ready to enjoy Ferris/Felix. He gets more screen time later on.

The pirates? The comedy? The fights? The story? The characters? It's all great.

At the same time, though, watching One Piece is a big time investment. I don't think you can really appreciate what's going on until your hundreds of episodes in and you truly understand the character's and their motivations.

Currently watching Legends of the galactic heroes. It's the best thing I've watched this year and I regret not watching it sooner.

What pre-2000 anime have you guys found to be extremely good?

From Urban Dictionary:

Taking coolness to its extreme and generally beyond the realm of actual possibility, while at the same time seemingly unaware of how ridiculous it is.

And while you Children of the Corn were all busy with Re: Zero, I was watching the Mardock Scramble trilogy. Rune Balot. The reason why certain anime series aren't for children. 8.5 out of 10.
