Darling in the FranXX had a solid start. It's a fairly standard teenage mecha pilot show opening episode but the execution is solid. I hope it stays strong.

Also watched Pop Team Epic Episode 2 in which Japan continues to push the bounds of shitposting.

DARLING in the FRANXX sounds some sort of smut, rather than robot show.

If you think enough and morbidly enough, school children in mechs are tragically humorous in their own right.

Dorohedoro got me thinking:

We can adapt a manga where little girls are subject to horrific acts such as poisoning, complete bodily dismantlement, and borderline rape, but we can't adapt a manga where a lizard guy bites people's faces off and people get turned into mushrooms?

I would love to see a comedy mech show where the prophesied school kids just end up causing havoc with the mechs and do more to hurt themselves but no one can replace them because of some dumb plot reason.

Then the villains are stuck trying to take down the super powerful mechs in a non violent way and end up being the heroes.

I think the only option most folk have now is to watch things out of season, Don't think even the most plugged in anime fans have time to keep up with all the new shows that air.

Ha yeah the format is a bit bad but it's quicker than typing out like 10-20 different anime that I think someone might or might not enjoy.

It's also possible the manga author was approached to make anime but he/she rejected the offer. Some writers are very protective of their work.

1. Cute stuff makes graphic stuff easier to show
2. Looking at the art, it looks really nice... yeah, a lot of studios can be hesitant to work on shows that require that level of effort and design. Why pour your heart out on a project when you could make LN adaptations instead?
3. Or the creator doesn't want there to be a show, some mangaka don't want anime of their works for various reasons
Human of the male variety

Finished the new Godzilla anime movie. Story and characters are meh, but that's not why we're here. The mechanical design loojs good and the action is on point. In terms of animation, it suffers in the same places that Polygon's other works have suffered so if you have any gripes with the animation in Sidonia or last year's BLAME! movie you'll have the same gripes with Planet of the Monsters.
