Also watching the plot unfold in Legend of Galactic heroes is kinda interesting. I don't understand why people use axes in space combat though, it boggles the mind.

At first I thought "well the armour the spacemen wear is immune to blaster fire for some reason" but nope, blasters work just fine in space.

for the latter: it's cause of the gas inside the spaceships thats pumped in when breaching happens that will ignite if lasers are fired, if you mean like why guys like the rosen ritters use it in space iunno other than the fact it's metal as fuck

Axes allow the user to put a very large amount of force on a very small area. In terms of melee weapons few things are better for smashing through armor especially considering that the ax bear and their victim are both in power armor.
