Probably the best in the genre. Still waiting on the anime though.

For a moment I thought that you guys were talking about a light novel, and if its good or not is just a matter of opinion, I bet there are lots of isekai better than this novel.

I don't know what do you want to achieve by making an anology to Plato's cave here nor why do you say "too" in a sense of including someone other than you in a situation where you're the only one affirming something, and I believe that what you're stating is pretty off-topic.

MAL scores are meaningless.

They're a measuring stick of popularity, not a measure of a shows quality.

Generally everything at 7+ is perfectly watchable. Shows at 5 and below are probably questionable.
That's about as far as you can take scores on face value.

The value from MAL comes from the reviewers themselves and once you find a reviewer you share common interests in, their comments are much more useful than some random critic talking trash about something.

Okyo wrote:
Abserdia wrote:You're assuming one big thing.
Because I don't like a mainstream show, I am wrong for hating it. I just hate SAO because it's a badly written show that threw away literally the only thing that I watched it for: the threat of death for these characters.
It should've ended with Kirito and Asuna dead and Aincrad falling apart. That should've been the final scene. But no, they just had to cash in on the immense popularity. Furthermore, Yui should've stayed dead. But apparently Kirito is a master programmer or whatever.
I'm not dissing it because it's the cool thing to do, I'm dissing it because I was so interested in this show, and it just forgot what it should be.

Long story short, SAO is a bad show, growing to hate something popular with a good reason shouldn't have you labeled as a "mainstream hater", and SAO Abridged did everything much better.

I'm not assuming that you're wrong nor that you're right, what I'm doing is questioning why the event that you caused happens so frequently, and why it happens the way it does, it is not my intention to classify you as a "mainstream hater", and I do not harbor any hostility toward you. You are saying that you express your disdain toward this particular anime because it didn't go the way you wanted it to be, but actually this is not something uncommon, and for some reason SAO has got special attention by this event, becoming really common to see the unrelated hate being tossed around, for example going to the extent of dismissing the quality of a source for giving SAO a good score. I don't think that the only thing in play here is the personal opinion of liking it or not. Why do you think that SAO receives this special attention, other than the personal opinion of people liking it or not? Why do people that don't like SAO in particular feel the need to express their dislike even if unrelated to the topic or unrequested, unlike other animes that people also do not like?

Sometimes the most negative and scathing reviews come from people who wanted to like something but felt betrayed by how things turn out.

SAO is a fairly unique case of being in the right place at the right time but ultimately failing the expectations of the viewers.

Still makes a ton of money though. All the negative reviews out there are like free advertising for it now.

There's nothing wrong with liking a show that most people dislike, there's plenty of shows i've watched that most folks here would probably run a mile from. Or at least walk away slowly.

I don't know why you're saying congrats because I linked a wikipedia article, but your motivation doesn't really matter, also, just because someone has a different opinion than yours it doesn't make the different opinion, as you said, "a really silly thing to say", this is a really unproductive way to think. Regarding what I stated, my opinion still remains the same.

Yes SAO is quite unique, and yes I agree that it makes them some kind of advertisement, albeit not the most desired type of advertisement. There are many shows that I like that many people wouldn't like too, just as an example the ecchi ones, some people have a belief that if there's ecchi in an anime they think the anime is bad just for this only reason.

I'm just wondering why you think LN writers who write iseaki are on par with someone who is widely regarded as one of the most influential American writers of all time. LNs are Japan's modern day version of pulp fiction. Authors writing iseaki are generally writing to sell to teenagers rather than trying to make serious literature. As someone who's favorite Authors are often condemned to the SciFi Ghetto, I really hate throwing around words like serious literature but in this case I feel like it applies. Writers that pump out YA fiction are rarely comparable to people like Twain and its silly to compare the two.

Kemono friends is the latest surprise in anime for me.

I honestly didn't think it would be as good as it is. It looks like it should be some silly kid show or over the top SoL where nothing happens but it's surprisingly fun to watch.

Also watching the plot unfold in Legend of Galactic heroes is kinda interesting. I don't understand why people use axes in space combat though, it boggles the mind.

At first I thought "well the armour the spacemen wear is immune to blaster fire for some reason" but nope, blasters work just fine in space.
Literally no reason for huge axes to be used. idk

SAO is ridiculously successful, I don't think that can be understated. Over 19 million copies of light novel sold. 19 million. And it's still going strong.
It's just disgusting.

I don't care about ecchi but it doesn't bother me.

Can't stand fanservice though. It grinds my gears better than Xcoms gameplay.

Ecchi shows, no problem. You want vaguely erotic stuff going on that's cool. Just keep it out of regular comedy and SoL shows and i'm happy as larry.
