I don't think were going to get any dragons not announced before hand, given that Tohrus dad didn't appear before dodgrball gag.

I am still not sure how there's been forced drama.

To begin with my ass. There was zero drama BS for the first 3 episodes of this show. Then it started creeping up and supplanting the comedy. Ergo, forced drama.

Then again, I consider ALL drama in my comedy anime forced.

Yeah the shota gag is not fun. The Lucoa's boobs gag was funny, and I enjoyed it, but we didn't need the extent it got. At least we haven't got any more of Kanna and her friend so far. That went way too far.

I disagree on the drama bit. There's a lot of inherent drama under the surface behind the very premise of the show, and its framing device (powerful dragon from fantasy world living in ours, unrequited love, etc.) that's waiting there, so I really disagree with it being termed 'forced'. A normal comedy show would have just overlooked this stuff, and focus on Tohru's wily antics, but I feel like it adds to the show rather than detracts from it. It adds just that right touch of bitterness that makes the sweet bits stand out all the more. It's this mix of seriousness and comedy that's what KyoAni does best (see K-On!) and I'm glad Dragon Maid is continuing in that tradition.

Thtat's not 'forced' drama, that's them introducing more drama as we get to know the characters, and see there's more depth to them. Was it forced drama when graduation began drawing near for the girls in K-On! ? Of course not, it was a logical consequence of the setting of the show. They're in high school, it has to end, and the idea that our lovable gang will be separated is sad. They introduced drama into a comedy show in no way that was forced.

Similarly, I find in Dragon Maid, the drama flows logically from the show's setting and framework. Tohru is a dragon from another world that's come to live in ours. That opens the door to loneliness, culture shock, etc. Tohru is in love with Kobayashi who seems a bit less romantically keen on her maid. All kinds of romantic drama flows from this. And the big one, Tohru lives forever, Kobayashi doesn't. That right there is plenty of drama waiting to happen. They could ignore it, just like they could have ignored the impending end of high school in K-On, but they don't, and I think the show is all the richer for it.

But I suppose you do acknowledge your bias there in that you just don't like drama in comedy anime, so that's fair enough.

I will continue saying that Dragon Maid is KyoAni doing that 'comedy with a touch of bitterness' that really makes shows shine. Though, the whole Shota gag is off putting, and does detract from my enjoyment of the show, it's not killing it for me.
