Just started Initial D. I'm excited, but the cliffhangers are unbearable.

Watching ergo proxy again. I never realised that the random tv game show ep was a disguised backstory info. Clever way of using presentation without clobbering the audience over the head with information.

Philjia wrote:I'm currently watching two anime.

The first is Log Horizon. It's somewhat of an odd duck. It's played and structured as a piece of genre cinema, but it uses all of them. One minute it's sci-fi, then it's action, then it's political thriller, and then back again, with lashings of silly comedy throughout. It works though, and very well. In the subgenre of "Trapped in a Computer Game" this is a superior work. The strong cast of characters keeps you anchored throughout the various switches in focus, and it's good to see a series that's at home solving problems through action as diplomacy, or political manoeuvring.

The other is Toradora! I'm a sucker for doofy humour, and this has it in spades, but it's also sweet and heartfelt. It's not the most attractive animation ever, but it's filled with sheer joyful energy. It's clear from the off how it's going to end if you're in any way cineliterate, but if you're like me you won't care. In my book, that's a mark of a properly engaging series.

Log Horizon does have a tendency to hop around a bit it's true. It's another anime I'm rewatching atm.

I've also seen Toradora not so long ago, I liked the comedy and SoL early on but the romance put me off by the end.

I watched the first few episodes of Youjo Senki earlier this week. Why is it that I can't get one World War-esque show that doesn't add magic or mechs? Is it too much to ask for a simple, early 1900s military drama?

Aside from that, the Tanya's subordinate is too cute. And not in a good way. It's almost sickening how poofy she looks compared to the rest of the show's characters. *eye twitch*

At least they explained why there is my magic, I found the reason compelling and interesting.

Did they? I've only seen the first three episodes and I don't recall any explanation.

They basically did in the second and third episodes, at least it was obvious to me.

Quite so. Give it a look-see if you like weird slice-of-life shows.

Also pertinent: Kyoani.

Not to say that Kyoani can do no wrong (cause they definitely can) but they're still great at cute slice of life series. This one reminds me way more of Nichijou, and that--I feel--is praise enough.

Steins;gate, all the way. It's got time travel, it's got conspiracies, and it has magic microwave ovens. I think it's 24 episodes?

I've been reading a manga called Dien Bien Phu. It's not Cat Shit One but it's also a...unique...take on the Vietnam War. A bit odd really in the way it switches from kawaii-ish cartoony thing to a gory cartoony thing. And it's full of political monologues and infodumps from some egg-shaped Green Beret.
