Oh man, Vanitas is a trip. A very pretty trip. The mood whiplash between the sillier moments and the more serious/deeply fucked up moments can be pretty jarring, but it definitely helps emphasize just how screwed up the fucked up stuff really is. Noé is a precious cinnamon bun. Who could totally rip your throat out if it came to it. But still a precious cinnamon bun.

I am about to finish the first season of the shield hero. I decided to rewatch it to give me an idea of what I can expect in S2, I think the anime was alright, the arc of the first wave, or well, the wave with the boss they did not manage to beat was a little weak from my perspective and I feel they got lucky with that one, the second part of the conspiracy of the church was a lot weaker for a big revelation, I mean I get the conspiracy and it was intriguing but you can replace the church with anything or anyone and still get the same result.

The conflicts were weak, but the worldbuilding and the other side characters were built very well, we got the spear hero being easily being manipulated by his own side character (and possibly lover), and both the sword hero and the archer hero thinking this was a game and not thinking that their actions had consequences, if I was in that situation I would most likely be one of them, the shield hero could have been anyone but they chose a weeb, they were a little specific but whatever. It's not like that is important in the course of the season which I appreciate, anything else is fine, just hope S2 is a lot better

Something about linework and coloring in Miss Shachiku and the Little Baby Ghost strongly gives me children's book illustration vibes and I don't know why

And just after the Shield Hero I had a marathon of Mob Psycho for one day and finished S1 really quickly, probably because it had only 14 episodes. But it was an amazing experience, I laughed a lot.

Perfect anime for me to chill a little bit outside of the cliche romance novels I have been obsessed with these weeks

so pacific rim: the black's second season came out and nobody decided to tell me. okay.

gonna post a more in-depth review when i finish it but the only thing i'm really hoping for this season are:

- an explanation to boy
- hayley and mei. please.

season 2 thoughts so far:

about 5 minutes into episode 1. well... talk about your superpowered evil sides.

i like the tension beginning to escalate between taylor and hayley. i feel like they're setting up your standard "nature vs. nurture" debate but, hey. boy's cool.

also i really really hope mei isn't gone for good. half because i ship her and hayley more than the titanic and half because she's probably my favorite character.

finished episode 1. decent start, definitely promising. feels like they're setting up taylor/mei which i'm not the biggest fan of but, hey, if mei doesn't end up with hayley i'm fine with her ending up with taylor instead.

just finished pacific rim: the black. final thoughts:

- hey, they didn't ship taylor and mei!
- i almost cried at the end but i didn't. strength!
- i really like atlas destroyer's design. my favorite is still cherno alpha but atlas is probably second above lady danger herself.
- shane deserved it.
- that scene with taylor and hayley's mom in the drift really threw me off guard. that's probably my favorite scene in the entire show.

some complaints, though:
- the animation could've afforded to be a lot smoother. it looked choppy at times, and i'm 99% sure that wasn't my internet.
- the category 6 at the end didn't FEEL like a category 6. it felt like just another kaiju, honestly. but the beatdown was cool.
- i fucking hate boy's little eye scar thing.
- so they just kinda dropped the idea that mei was a sister and... that's it? they didn't even do anything with the data key that shane gave her? if she's a sister, why doesn't she have any kaiju mutations? why was talyor and hayley's mom's blood red instead of blue like the other sisters? the sisters as a whole just feel kinda rushed.

7/10. i'll probably watch it again sometime in the future.

Watched The Princess and the Pilot on Prime, and apparently there's a couple more shows/films set in the same fictional universe. It was alright, if not somewhat light on action for my taste.

I look forward to checking out the other works in the series, nonetheless. Pretty solid 7-7.5/10 IMO

so it looks like people who've watched PR:TB hate hayley. that sucks, she's my second favorite character.

people complain about her being emotional and underdeveloped when they don't realize that's the point. gonna try to avoid spoilers, but to make a long story short she never had a chance to grow up. her only family member she could communicate with, her brother, is distant and blames her for being immature --- which is completely out of her control, considering she's been without her parents for half her life.

people complain about her attaching to boy without realizing that she has nobody else to attach to. taylor is distant and blames himself for feeling like a failure. mei was a child soldier mentally erased by a sociopath. boy is the only character that doesn't have anything else on his mind. he can see hayley for who she really is --- a caring soul thrust into a situation she's wholly unprepared for --- and that's why she spends half of season 2 trying (dammit i didn't avoid them all)

trying desperately to save his life.

she was never in a military academy like taylor or all but born on a battlefield like mei. she's 14 years old and has no idea what she's doing. she's young and scared.

it's like complaining about cloud strife being an unreliable narrator.

Is the show good? I was planning on watching it but based on the few trailers I saw the main guy seemed and sounded so annoying I didn't start the show. Wondering if I should give it a chance despite that or not.
