Which Anime are you watching or have watched recently IV?

I love Studio Ghibli, but I can agree with letting other studios get some recognition as well. Japan has quite a rich variety of pretty animated films, Ghibli has some of the best but shouldn’t have a monopoly on them.

Best my ass. Ghibli (And Miyazaki) are all flash, zero substance. Pretty animation, but nothing else.

Ironic considering your undying praise for Symphogear. (Which doesn't even have pretty animation most of the time)

Anyway, I'm 19 episodes into Golden Wind. It's picked up a little, but I still see this as probably being my new least favorite entry. It's a toss-up right now between it and Stardust Crusaders. We'll see how it goes. A lot less banal toilet humor and whatnot than SC, but the cast are just boring and their Stands are lame. With the exception of Fugo and Buccirati's.

And I have yet to see one that I have not had a positive view of. Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle are particularly marvellous, and I adore his take on worldbuilding - he weaves such a deep and real fantasy world, if one takes a moment to see it.

Princess Mononoke is pretty amazing too, especially because it is a fantasy story situated in a very real and violent historical period of Japan. I've never seen a Ghibli movie I didn't like, truth be told.

A. A decent amount of Pre-Cure series actually have substance: The Original, Heartcatch, Suite, Hug To!, etc...
B. Yes, you are correct, Symphogear is probably the flag bearer of all flash no substance, or it would be if its animation wasn't so stilted for like 70% of the show.
