Got interdicted by a player for the first time in Elite Dangerous, no idea what ship he had, or what weapons he had (did see the effect of what looked like a scatter cannon thingy flying past me) but he took down my shields in two hits, and 30% of my hull in another hit, only survived because a security vessel showed up and spooked him and i hightailed it back to the port i came from and repaired myself.

Nope sorry, cannot play XCOM2 ironman, i do not have the patience to deal with how infuriating it can be, especially when the game screws me with a ui issue like it did in my last mission which basically cost me an entire squad.

Also im justn ot that good enough at it.

I don't tend to play on Ironman in either XCOM because of issues like that, which are even more frequent since I run them heavily modified.

Yeah i have a ton of mods as well which i guess could make it worse with ui issues some times, eh ill stick to normal games at commander, and then eventually try it on legend where ill probably be fricking shredded like cabbage.

Honestly, I like the original (1994) Xcom the most, especially with the OpenXCOM edition and Area 51 mod. I like having large squads.

When I first installed OpenXCom I played the game for so long that I was Tetris-effect seeing battlescape scenes for hours after. Game gets very addictive when you get to caring about your dudes.

Xenonauts is good, too. Basically XCom '94, but prettier and with 100% more Cold War.

What is OpenXCom?

I've got the original XCOM on Steam and it's just sat there because I frankly can't be particularly bothered to work out how to play it, the unintuitive mess.

OpenXCom:

http://openxcom.org/about/ wrote:OpenXcom is an open-source clone of the original UFO: Enemy Unknown (X-Com: UFO Defense in USA), licensed under the GPL and written in C++ / SDL. It was originally founded by SupSuper in February 2010, and has since grown into a small development team surrounded by a very supporting community.

The goal of the project is to bring back the tried and true feel of the original with none of the issues. All the same graphics, sound and gameplay with a brand new codebase written from scratch. This should give it:

Fixability: Play the game natively without any need for emulators or fancy hacks, with none of the limitations and bugs that plagued the original. No more 80-item-limit, personnel limits, funding overflows, disconnected facilities, broken proximity grenades, floating soldiers, etc.

Moddability: Tweak the game to your heart’s content. Sure the original was pretty good, but maybe you just think it could be that bit better. A nicer base layout, better laser weapons, maybe challenge yourself with a custom game mode, or just put in all the crazy stuff you’ve always wanted! None of it is hardcoded.

Flexibility: Port the game to any platform you like, customize it to your liking, or use it to make your own far-fetched remakes. The code is fully documented and open-source so anyone can take a crack at it.

On top of ALL THAT GOODNESS, there's a beutiful mod called Area 51 that adds so much new content and replayability that it becomes addictive. More story, more missions, more game mechanics, more aliens, friendly AI soldiers (like army soldiers and cops) on certain missions, more tech, more spooky and hard aliens, and more crafts, it's insane and I'll never go back to the newer Xcoms because of this mod and the sheer amount of content on it.

Edit: also waaaay more maps and mission types.

Feel free to TG me and I'll tell you more and give you info on its installation.

To put it as simple as possible it's how programs are packaged and installed for Debian-based (a linux distribution) operating systems like: Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, etc.. So it's the equivalent of downloading a .exe and installing it from that.
