Oh, no. I never noticed any real social commentary in his other games.

He’s not a good writer. He straight up lies to the player. See Heavy Rain, a mystery game that gives you only red herrings, leading to the reveal of the Origarmi Killer being unexpected in the worst possible way. There are bad twists, and then there are the worst twists. Heavy Rain features one of the worst twists.

The dialogue is always awful, too. His characters talk like they’re aliens trying to fit in. He has some weird almost-rape fantasy he puts in every game, some pretentious thing in every chapter (Hey guys, the androids stand in the back of the bus behind a glass panel! Isn’t that a clever reference to segregation in America?), and in the case of Beyond Two Souls, THE WORST PACING I HAVE EVER SEEN IN A VIDEO GAME

I've enjoyed his last few games because they're adventure games without becoming a Telltale-like, which is getting very boring, like most recent others seem to.

I feel bad that somehow I still mix/confuse Alan Wake and Heavy Rain.

Oh, I misread that. I wouldn't resd too much into it, I like them because they break from the awful Telltale-like trend that most adventure games are drifting into.

The market dominance of "Telltale-like" may be awful, but Telltale's formula is actually good, I hear.

I agree. I don't mean to skirt the bounds of a spoiler warning, but you know that stupid fucking teenager that is your nephew (I think)? He becomes much worse. I mean, worst character in the entire series. He's just total garbage.

NieR: Automata is the best video game about the ”What Measure Is A Non-Human” trope.
The difference between NieR and Detroit is like day and night. The former can actually make you cry, but the latter makes you laugh at a drug addicted father verbally abusing his daughter.

You don’t have to gush about NieR, but I just get mad when people simplify it. Both Gestalt and Automata are more complex than a lot of people think.

I don’t feel it copies NieR. The themes of humanity in robotic beings was not created by Yoko Taro. It’s been done a million times within the past 5 years alone.
However, Detroit just isn’t well written. I don’t think any David Cage game is well-written. Although he can make actually compelling and interesting scenes, they’re a rarity. The man truly tries, and I gotta give him that. But when you’re routinely laughing at a dramatic game about a serial killer who drowns young boys in rainwater and a father who mutilates himself to save the only family he has left, you’ve done something wrong.
