I've found the Monster Hunter games suffer from slow start syndrome, at least the couple I tried.

You want to hunt and fight giant monsters! Just spend several hours doing what feels like skull smashingly dull busy work first.

That true, but it was several hours of mind mumbling simple and boring filler. It like they stretched out the tutorial for way to long.

I don't mind slow starts, but I don't care how good later on is if your going to waste my time for hours and feel like I'm making next to no progress until getting to the actual meat of the game.

The creators did design that, but the players are the ones who decide to blow off her skirt. Or look up the skirt. 95% of the time her butt isn't even in frame.

Again, designed by the people who made the game. Cause it's nothing but cheap eye candy like I said. They knew that, and threw in such things to get buys. If this game was SO great, they wouldn't have needed to do that.

Because, again, people don't play it just to look up 2B's skirt. I know I certainly don't.

Have you seen any of the actual gameplay? Do you know anything about the story? Have you read any professional reviews? Have you seen anything other than fanart or a few gifs?

Because this "fact" that it has no gameplay is so stupid I honestly can't believe it.
It has been positively received mostly for its combat and story. Especially for its story and characters. So please, just shut up. You clearly know nothing about it. Only one or two characters so far have given fanservice, 4 if you count some male bosses who are shirtless for one fight. And in that fight, it's all in a 2D angle at a bit of a distance, so you barely see anything.The most major eyecandy is received from the main character, and that accounts for maybe 20 whole seconds in actual cutscenes, give or take a few. And in those cutscenes it's usually focusing on either her face or some other character. The other character, the one that isn't the two bosses or the main character, can only be called "fanservice" because her shirt is ripped up a bit because she's been in almost endless combat for what seems to be multiple years.

You can't even call something a fact if you've never even played it. I mean, literally everything I've read about this game is raving about the combat and story with a few words given to the fanservice. Are you getting all your NieR knowledge from 2 Tumblr blogs or 4chan?
Because you are so misinformed that it's getting hard to bear. You need to actually know about this kind of stuff before making such harsh criticisms.

I always hated that phrase. It just encourages people to use one picture as evidence while ignoring everything else. It's just the opposite of "Never judge a book by its cover."

I finally got Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. This is my first playthrough of Fates, and I'm enjoying it quite a lot so far. I don't think it's quite up to the standard of Awakening, which I really adore, but good nonetheless.

I got Fates: Birthright but purchased the Conquest and Revelation storylines. It was my first Fire Emblem Game and...it was amazing. I dropped so far 100+ hrs and am still playing it just on a harder difficulty. I do plan for my current playthrough to be my last for a while and it's nearly over. The game single handedly made me a fan of the series and the Conquest story is my favorite.

I have just acquired Awakening a couple days ago so it's too soon to judge but it has a high bar to surpass in my opinion.

Other recent additions to my gaming library include Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn for the Wii and Dragon Ball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 3(which I am doing a review on) and Naruto Clash of Ninja Revolution 3 also for the Wii.

Then they never got to the second half of the game, which is where it shines. The 3 main characters are all amazing, and the girl who gives you most of the fan service actually has an explanation as to why she wears her revealing clothes. It's an important part of her story that is revealed only in the second play through.

...You're just missing out on what may be called the best story on this generation of consoles. Or the best story of the last generation of consoles.

The problem is when the slow burn doesn't add anything to the experience because it's poorly written, unessecarily drawn out etc but has a superior second half that's excellent. This makes the first part seem like a waste in comparison and have you wonder why the first half is so bad if the second is excellent.

In relation to games this can be a big deal. No one wants to waste time playing a game. I feel like the Monster Hunter series has a bad reputation for doing this, since it seems the first part of the game is mind numbing busy work and acts as a tutorial that goes on for hours. I've heard Final Fantasy 13 did this and had a boring and really drawn out dozen hours, but I haven't played that so I can't say with much authority that is.

Whether or not NieR fits into the former or latter category is very subjective, but I still think it's a great story even if the first half is a bad "slow burn."

Also, most of the game takes place in the second half, since you'll be playing the first half only once and the second 2 times, 4 if you go in without a guide and/or common sense. Granted, the second time playing is much easier and you'll decimate most enemies, but it's still a rather solid chunk of gametime compared to the start of the game, especially with the short novel you have to read at the beginning of Ending B.

By the way, if you do plan on playing the original NieR...

Use a guide. It isn't hard or anything. You just don't want to play through the entire game all over again just to get the final endings.
