Discussion for architecture, what's your guys favourite?
In my opinion to start, I would have to say early british architecture and WW2 era germany. Although I also enjoy many italian, greek and roman styles of building.

The problem with modern skyscrapers is that they use too much glass. That explains why todays skyscrapers get built quickly unlike decades ago.

You need to be careful when you say "progress in society". Some of those skyscrappers might look very modern looking but are problems in the making. I mean design flaws or cost cutting. For example, there is a skyscrapper in San Francisco which is sinking. They must have known this would happen. Andif the sinking was not enough, its starting to lean.

What they do not tell you is that in the very early 20 century the location of the building was part of San Francisco bay. After the great quake they tossed all the rumble into the bay thus drying it up. The builder of this building built on top of all that landfill. They needed to get to bedrock which they did not do. They say bedrock is 91 meters (300 feet) down.

Reminds me, I never saw the Klementium library when I was over there, but I once visited Strahov monastery in Prague, and saw both library halls there. Looks pretty similar in style.

I have quite a few favorite architectural styles: Romanesque, Gothic, Neo-Gothic, Neo-Classical, Art-Nouveau, Gregorian, Indo-Islamic, Maratha, Vijayanagara, Spanish Islamic, Prairie style, Colonial, and Art Deco.

I like rococo, but it is often overdone. I think it is both a good and bad thing that rococo architecture never replaced baroque in France, for as beautiful as rococo is in Italy and southern Germany where it was most popular, it was often a little overdone. And I would regret seeing the same in French architecture.

Truly? That is pretty frightening news indeed...surely the problem has been recognized by the city though, yes?

My favourite architectural styles are Russian Revival, Indo-Saracenic Revival, Moorish Revival, Gothic Revival, Gothic, Tudor Revival, Tudor, Classical, Neoclassical, Japanese architecture (predating Westernisation), Art Deco, some Art Nouveau. I'd say Russian Revival is my favourite if I had to choose between those, although architectural preference is contextual to some degree.

I like Art Déco and Liberty mostly, but I don't dislike the Viennese Secession, Palladio, the Bauhaus somewhat, the late Gothic and the Romanesque. Well, the Andalusians did cool stuff too.

A few styles I like include Moorish, Tibetan, Minangkaybu, Old Norse(?) and Shinto architecture. I like classical architecture but not so much neoclassical - it seems like a stodgier interpretation with less vibrant life than the original, brightly colored classical temples. Gothic architecture is also cool. For modern stuff I like expressionism, the New World Order-looking stuff they have in Brasilia and (especially) Astana, as well as expressionism (but not Frank Gehry) and whatever Gaudi is.

Antoni Gaudi is considered the best exponent of Catalan Modernism architecture.
