Symmetra from Overwatch. Confirmed Autistic. Representation, yo.
How about some companion critters, yeah? Alternatively, you don't even have to pay for them. Or how about herbal medicine?

Well, tonnes tbh, but here's a few random picks:

Kylar Stern, the Night Angel Trilogy, since, well, he's designed to be relatable.

Bartimaeus, The Bartimaeus Sequence, in part since he introduced me to having snarky protagonists.

Elend, the Mistborn Trilogy, also very relatable.

Dianora, Tigana (so far... I've not finished it yet), for too many reasons.
I used to run an alliance, and a region. Not that it matters now.

When was this? She's OCD, maybe, but autism would have other markers that I have not seen in this character. If you have evidence, please provide.

PErsoanlly, I main Genji because I'm decent with him, and I like his mobility.

This will likely be a long list of my favorite characters from fandoms.

Movies and TV:

Spock, Scotty, Jean-Luc Picard, Worf, Benjamin Sisko, Quark, Kira Nyers, Jadzia Dax, Kathryn Janeway (various Star Trek franchises)
Captain Jack Harkness, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, The Doctor (specifically 12, 9, 8, 4, and 11) (Doctor Who)
Michonne, Carol, Beth, Herschel, Dale (The Walking Dead)
Phil Coulson, Melinda May (Agents of SHIELD)
Iron Man, Black Widow (MCU)
Jessica Jones (Jessica Jones)
Dana Scully, Fox Mulder (X-Files)
Professor X (both versions), Storm (original X-Men movies)
Arya Stark, Brienne of Tarth, Tyrion Lannister (GoT)
Gollum (LotR)
Dr. Zaius (Planet of the Apes)
John McClane, Hans Gruber (Die Hard)
Batman, The Joker (both Nolan and Tim Burton's versions)
Sarah Connor, T-101 (specifically from Terminator and T2)
Hal 9000 (2001: A Space Odyssey)
Probably forgetting a few that I'll add on later

Books:

Luna Lovegood, Hermione Granger, Severus Snape, Sirius Black (Harry Potter)
The Time Traveler (The Time Machine)
Atticus Finch (To Kill A Mockingbird)
I know there's some I'm missing from this category.

Animated Television:

Montgomery Burns, Seymour Skinner (The Simpsons)
Roger Smith, Avery Bullock (American Dad!)
Herbert Garrison (South Park)
Bender Rodriguez (Futurama)

Video Games:

Rosalina, Wario (Mario Brothers)
Palutena (Super Smash Brothers)
Lucina (Fire Emblem)
Liara, virtually every female character (Mass Effect)
Leliana, Morrigan (Dragon Age)

I just realized that three of these characters on my list are played by Patrick Stewart.

I tend to like characters who are more fascinating and not as black and white. A well-written and interesting character can save otherwise bad fiction. I also like characters who are completely mysterious and who we know almost nothing about, such as The Doctor. When characters have that sense of mystery about them they become even more intriguing. Characters who are outcasts, eccentric, and don't have everything going for them are also more appealing than the cookie cutter types. Characters who break stereotypes and defy expectations are also appealing.

Still, there's nothing wrong with a good old fashioned hero or villain if they're interesting and written well.

Johann Liebert and Kenzo Tenma, from Monster
Virtually anyone that Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn have ever played
Norman Bates, from Psycho
Colonel Dax, from Paths of Glory
President Snow, from the Hunger Games (I don't care that this one originated in a book, Donald Sutherland's performance makes this character)

Video Games:

Ah fuck it, every character in The World Ends With You
Empress Sanaki and Queen Elincia, from Fire Emblem Tellius
Rook, from The Banner Saga
Fawful, from Mario and Luigi

Deadpool, Magneto, Dr. Doom, Black Panther, Spider-Man, all from Marvel Comics
Batman, Joker, non-Snyder Lex Luthor, Superman when done right (eg All Star Superman, Red Son), all from DC Comics
Silver and Platinum, from Pokemon Adventures
Vladek Spiegelman, from Maus (admittedly he was a real person, but he's still a great character)

She doesn't show symptoms other than OCD, implying to me that she is refferring to human differences as a spectrum: there are some who are not that different, and some who are very different.

Ugg, how could I have forgotten David Xanatos, of "Gargoyles"?
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Belloq from Raiders of the Lost Ark
電光石火Lightning fast
For: RAGE, hypercapitalism, national fragmentation, city-states, transhumanism
Against: Feminism, identity politics, gun control, liberal-progressivism

I enjoy a good upstanding, idealistic hero and despise the tendency to equate darker or more ambiguous with better, though I'm not a fan of cartoonish, evil for the sake of evil villains. To me, their are two main ways to write a villain- either you write a complex villain who's monstrous but has some sympathetic motives, or you do a pure Force of Nature antagonist, which can be powerful and menacing and implacable but almost isn't a character, so much as a personification of a concept or force.

Examples of the former would include:

Grant Ward (Agents of SHIELD) before they retconned him into just straight-up sadist. A weak-willed man from an abusive background who latches onto whatever person or cause drifts into his life and follows them like a loyal dog (a comparison the show itself makes as I recall), even when he knows its wrong. But no less horrifying for that, because the end result is still a selfish, cruel, and relentless killer.

Magneto (X-Men). A man who's seen the worst of humanity and ends up becoming a genocidal monster himself in order to protect his people from having the same thing happen to them again.

Gollum (Lord of the Rings). A pitiable addict corrupted by the Ring, who keeps trying to break free but never entirely can.

Denethor (Lord of the Rings). A man who's committed to defending his nation but proud and somewhat narrow in his perspective, and gets slowly worn down until he despairs and snaps.

Examples of the latter:

The Joker (The Dark Knight's version, anyway). Emblematic of chaos and human evil in general.

The Nazgul (The Lord of the Rings). Symbolize both fear, and the effects of the corruption of seeking power.

Sauron (The Lord of the Rings). Basically represents evil, and specifically the corruption of power, personified.

Big Brother (1984). Represents the power of the state and its pretences of benevolence.

The Terminator (Terminator). A relentless mechanical pursuer.

Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer is an example of a character that starts out as the former (the latest relentless bad ass in town) and/or the third category I'm getting to, and eventually morphed into the former (a monster trapped between human desires and inhuman, evil nature).

Though sometimes you can get away with a villain without much depth of character who's entertaining based on pure style (Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean strikes me as this somewhat, largely due to Geoffrey Rush being a fantastic actor).

As to avoiding stereotypes and cliches, yes, that's always a mark of good writing.

Those are some good examples of the kind of villains I like.

Gul Dukat from Deep Space Nine should be added to that list as well. At a first glance you see him as Space Hitler, but the writers knew how to make him complex, conflicted, humorous, and hell, they even made him damn sympathetic at times. He's perhaps one of the most complex and well written villains I've ever seen on screen.

I like the villains who aren't black and white aren't the cartoony mustache twirling types. These are the ones who, in another life, perhaps even could have been good people if given the chance. The more complex the villain is, the more I find them interesting.

DISCLAIMER: If I put, say, a comic book character in the movies section, it's because I like them for their portrayal in the movie. I'm not claiming that they are from a movie. The same works for everything else. Also, if I include villains on here, it is either because I think they're cool or funny. Not because I agree with them. Some of the good guys on here are also only on here because they're funny.

In Games:

Scolar Visari (Killzone)
Jorhan Stahl (Killzone)
Admiral Lord Terrance Hood (Halo)
Thel 'Vadam (Halo)
Captain Price (COD: MW)
President Howard T. Ackerman (Command & Conquer: Red Alert)
Jorge (Halo)
Chips Dubbo (Halo)
Every character from Half-Life
Penultimo (Tropico)
Rico Rodriguez (Just Cause)
Niko Bellic (GTA)
Cryptosporidium 137 (Destroy all Humans!)
Commander Shepard (Mass Effect) ("We'll bang, okay?")
Apollo Diomedes (Dawn of War) ("IT IS THE BANEBLADE!")
Indrick Boreale (Dawn of War) ("SPESS MEHRENS")
Lord Bale/Crull (Dawn of War) ("SINDRIIIII")
Stanley (The Stanley Parable)
The Narrator (The Stanley Parable)
The Kerbals (Kerbal Space Program) (especially Jebediah Kerman)
Artyom (Metro)
Pavel Morozov (Metro)
Miller (Metro)
Jim Raynor (StarCraft)
Zeratul (StarCraft)
Arcturus Mengsk (StarCraft)
Horace Warfield (StarCraft)

In TV:

Dr. John Watson (Sherlock)
Sherlock Holmes (Sherlock)
The Doctor (Doctor Who)
Rory Williams (Doctor Who)
Amy Pond (Doctor Who)
The Master (Doctor Who)
Sebastian Monroe (Revolution)
Hank Hill (King of the Hill)
Zoidberg (Futurama)

In Movies:

Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones)

Captain Marko Ramius (The Hunt for Red October) (I do not like Jack Ryan, however. Jack Ryan OP, pls nerf)
Vlad (Fallout)
Aj Kvara (Kraken)

All of these plus a few more I'm sure I'm forgetting.

- Griffith (Berserk). Although he did kind of do a lot of bad stuff, I can't hate him. I mean, he had to be convinced by the 'being' of deception before he actually sacrificed anyone during the eclipse. And then he let Guts and Casca escape. I hope we get a chapter where he gets to redeem himself. Plus before the eclipse he went under a year of extremely painful torture.
- Jesse (Breaking Bad). He gets beat up all the time while Walt does most of the talking. I can't help but think that Jesse gets it more than most others in the show.
- General Tullius (Skyrim). He's got a job. Nothing more. He doesn't go fooling around with the Stormcloak supporters. There is no unnecessary violence or hatred, all he wants to do is bring peace back to Skyrim and finish his job. Plus he hates the Thalmor and probably would love to get rid of them at any moment.
- Bruce Wayne (Batman). Self Explanatory.
- Sinestro (DC). He uses fear and extreme measures in order to ensure the survival and safety of his people. He might be an evil tyrant, but he's an evil tyrant that did everything for those he loved and his people I think.
- Black Adam (DC).
- The Emperor of Mankind (Warhammer).
- Logan Ninefingers (First Law Trilogy). He tries to be peaceful, fighting against a bloodthirsty rage. He tries very hard, and I admire that.
REWORKING FACTBOOKS!
- No more High King. All Kings are equal.
- More changing as well.

- Drizzt Do'Urden

Characters I Like Because of Gameplay
- Zac, Caitlyn, Thresh, and Lissandra from League of Legends - however I do like them for more than just their gameplay.
- Marth/Lucina, Cloud, Ganondorf and Sheik from Super Smash Bros.
- Zetterburn from Rivals of Aether.

This is not a complete list, but it does have several that I can think of off the top of my head.
