There are classes, but (on singleplayer @ least) you can't choose which one you go as and you don't get to decide your loadout (you can pick guns up in the mission, that's pretty exciting).

And yeah, the characters are supposed to be realistic and "grey", and Joel is definitely not a goody two shoes guy.

The reason was that it's the closest thing to 'real' war (glitches and such notwithstanding), so while anti-war games tend to pound in the message with cynicism and grit by forcing you to do stuff, ARMA shows the random nature of war, the confusion and breakdown of communication, not knowing were your getting shot at and by who. Thus making it more effective at being 'anti-war'. It shows how war sucks and is mostly waiting for someone to start at you and being in a firefight that lasts a few minutes.

You play as multiple people in Cold War and you can still die pretty quickly. It takes one or two shots to kill you.
Also, that like....2001? I'm talking about ARMA 2 and 3. You know, the one's people care about?

Cold War was a classic. The only one that's not a dicking around simulator.
Not that that's bad.
Also you're pushing on a Moving the Goalposts.

Unless you're just blurting out things.
I have 88 hours in Operation Flashpoint Cold War. It used to be the game I played every day. Just to note.
Also, how is specifying which ARMA I'm talking about dismissing my theory? Cold War wasn't even a ARMA game, the first ARMA game was This. It's only called ARMA now because it was made by Bohemia before they split.
