I probably should've specified...

Is that the one where you start with a SCAR-L?

Only a couple levels have SCAR-L I think. You spend most of the game with an M16A4 probably.

There are classes, but (on singleplayer @ least) you can't choose which one you go as and you don't get to decide your loadout (you can pick guns up in the mission, that's pretty exciting).

I think in Red River you can pick a class, and just assign different ones to the squad.

Just looked it up on wikipedia, it's the one with the SCAR.
The one I uninstalled pretty soon because it was pretty buggy after release.

And all of this for a character that's probably going to be disappointing anyway.

Maybe Blizzard will just fucking give up and make us unlock Sombra with Loot-Boxes.

At least people've finally stopped jerking them off after this whole "Summer Games" bullshit.

I once saw a video (Forget who it was) that said ARMA was a more effective anti-war game then any actual 'anti-war' games.

The reason was that it's the closest thing to 'real' war (glitches and such notwithstanding), so while anti-war games tend to pound in the message with cynicism and grit by forcing you to do stuff, ARMA shows the random nature of war, the confusion and breakdown of communication, not knowing were your getting shot at and by who. Thus making it more effective at being 'anti-war'. It shows how war sucks and is mostly waiting for someone to start at you and being in a firefight that lasts a few minutes.

I've only played Cold War, but the game still asks me to be this Rambo protagonist that's supposed to do everything himself so I'm not sure I buy that message.

You play as multiple people in Cold War and you can still die pretty quickly. It takes one or two shots to kill you.

Also, that like....2001? I'm talking about ARMA 2 and 3. You know, the one's people care about?

Cold War was a classic. The only one that's not a dicking around simulator.

Not that that's bad.

Without specifying which ARMA you're talking about, you can't dismiss my claim about Cold War being a kink in your theory.

I have 88 hours in Operation Flashpoint Cold War. It used to be the game I played every day. Just to note.

Also, how is specifying which ARMA I'm talking about dismissing my theory? Cold War wasn't even a ARMA game, the first ARMA game was This. It's only called ARMA now because it was made by Bohemia before they split.

Hell this guy explains it better then me- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-228auScq1g

It's still considered to be ARMA though. It's not just a spiritual successor to Cold War when it was originally released. It was at first, but now it's an example of canon welding. Err, series welding at least.

Dismissing your theory? You made the defensive comment about Cold War. I'm not dismissing the theory, I just don't see it from Cold War specifically.

I disagree (having not played an Arma title). Partly because glitches are a whole reason why the illusion of immersion is suspended.
Also because Arma seems to have relatively little in the way of atmosphere, compared to something like Red Orchestra, which actively tries to get across the horrors of war (which I also have not played).
