Samurai Jack Is Back

Finally getting a chance to sit down and watch. So far looks pretty true to the classic art style, which I'm glad to see. It looks nice.
Dunno' if I'm sold on the upgraded arsenal, but maybe it'll grow on me in time.

And ooooh, they kept the classic outro theme? Nice.

I found the jokes about Jack's hair/beard much more amusing than an outdated stereotypical speech pattern.

I like that it felt like watching an episode from the shows first run. they don't overdo it with their newfound ability to show blood and gore.

I meant after 10 years the creator managed to make it look like the original seasons. which is good based on the initial trailers I expected it to have an art shift.

Mh. I also like that most of the show still retains the PG-rated violence of the old seasons, with the usual bot-bashing.

Of course, then we get to the Daughters of Aku...

Just got around to watching the full episode.

I'm not really thrilled about the obvious PTSD angle, but it certainly wasn't bad. The animation was just as great as the original series and I liked that they found a nice medium between adult grittiness and the goofy fun of the original show.

The fabulous robot controlling stuff with music was a definite highlight for me.

The wolf metaphor didn't take up too much time though, a lot of it was spent on the actual fight itself.

The first scene with Aku is fucking great. It's good to see that the show hasn't lost it's humor. Also the scene of Jack talking to himself, and actually contemplating suicide was fantastically dark. The man who has waded through entire armies without as so much as blink, has been broken down to the point where what was once unthinkable is now thinkable.

The man who has waded through entire armies without as so much as blink, has been broken down to the point where what was once unthinkable is now thinkable.

It makes us remember that Jack is not a god. He's a human who has lived and suffered far more than most people. He's existing in the plane of "the future", but he can never truly experience life as a being of "the past", and so all this time it's like he's been wandering through a nightmare. Or someone else's life, not really his own. It was extremely depressing, but magnificently written. Never shoved in your face, only insinuated, and that's how it hits as hard as it does.
