Their idea of bettering humanity is the same as a parent deciding all their child does because it can't think for itself. They see the wasteland and its population as a sapless bunch of primitives that need to be saved from themselves.

They're like the Enclave, just less genocide-ey.

The Institute had already "won" by the events of Fallout 4. If the LW does nothing to harm them, they could and would have continued indefinitely in their current purpose, as they had essentially no potential threats.
Polishing the floors and building cool robots was more or less all they needed to do, as simply sustaining themselves was enough to ensure their "victory."

"Won" is a big word. They just hadn't ever been in a proper confrontation.

It's been a while since I've read The Art of War, but I seem to recall Sun Tzu rambling a bit about how much better it is to win without having to fight, or putting yourself in a position where victory is assured before you start fighting.

Considering that Sun Tzu was a courser, I find it hard to trust him regarding how wars are fought in modern times.

Mate if you want to be an institute fanboi, fine by me.

Just because the societies that have been built in the wasteland don't compare the the pre-war society doesn't mean they're bad. That's Enclave rhetoric. "Our way or no way" is what you're basically saying.

Humanity shouldn't go back to what it was, to the state that led to the apocalypse. They shouldn't rebuild the old world, but build a new one on top of the ruin of the old.

That's a nice retort, pet.

The wastelanders are progressing though. You just don't consider it progress because somehow you assume everyone should be building high-rises and watching reruns of Days of our lives by now.

The thing that the Institute does not offer is equality. The Institute and the Enclave both consider themselves superior over the people surviving in the wasteland and think they know it better, despite not actually living in the wasteland.

It's like the U.S. trying to enforce their democracy and mindset abroad. You can't copy-paste a society.

To top it all off, they have no leadersn, which also its Director explicitly said to you. They can't possibly be a guiding force since there's nobody people would look up to and follow, and their ideas of fixing society in the wasteland are likely not even realistically possible. They rely too heavily on pre-war tech and without it they're shit. They have shown little to no ingenuity with limited resources, because they have no limited resources in their small society. That won't be the same out there.
