Keeper of the Ledger, and Kiss My Ashes Goodbye by Woods of Ypres are both depressing as well.

You mention those, but don't mention Finality or Distractions of Living Alone?

I just mentioned those two, but Finality is definitely up there too, don't think I recognize the other one though, may have to go back and listen to it.

Where was your star?
Was it far, was it far?
When did we leave?
We believed, we believed, we believed

In the heat and the rain
With whips and chains
Just to see him fly
Too many died
We build a tower of stone
With our flesh and bone
To see him fly
But we don't know why
Ooh, now where do we go

Favorite guitar solos? My favorite would have to be A Tale of Creation or In The Grip of Winter. Also on a side note, I've been trying to incorporate more Solstice into my listening, and I think I'll give Woods of Ypres a try.

Just listened to it again. Goosebumps. Those were basically David Gold's last words...eerily "final" for someone who couldn't have known how close at hand his death actually was.

Distractions of Living Alone is a powerful despairing song as well, but in a different way. Instead of mourning his death, Gold is cursing his life.

At first I thought he was talking about At the Gates since Impy hates, as Qwerty from RYM would call it, "pop music disguised as metal."

King Diamond (and Mercyful Fate) are kind of hit-or-miss with me.

Any very relaxing, not-too-heavy doom metal recommendations? I know that's almost hypocritical since doom metal is supposed to be, well, DOOM-LADEN AND SCARY, but hey if Deafheaven can still be considered black metal then anything is possible.

I like Deafheaven.

So I listened to Blaakyum's new album and damn, it was great. They are like a thrash version of Myrath. Which means thrash metal with middle eastern folk influences, for those who have no idea about Myrath :p

New album I stumbled across on Bandcamp. Blackened hardcore, with some sludgy and skramzy moments in there.

I've found a ton of them on bandcamp. Blackened hardcore/crust/metalcore/skramz is a lot more common than I thought, although none of the bands are big.

Deicide is a great album! Unlike some Death metal albums where the riffs fail to stick with me, these are catchy.
