Since we're all grabbing one genre of expertise, I'll take Power. Here's a diverse little sampling:

Best PM concept album (and arguably overall)
Blind Guardian - Nightfall in Middle-Earth

Best classic 80s PM
Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys Pts. I & II

Most inspirational PM
Lost Horizon - A Flame To The Ground Beneath

Best Folk-PM
Elvenking - The Pagan Manifesto

Evilest PM
Helstar - Nosferatu
or Persuader - When Eden Burns

Best Sci-Fi PM
Keldian - Journey of Souls
or Gamma Ray - Somewhere Out In Space

Are these all albums?
(I'm currently still going through Nazarene's list)

Note: I didn't add Meshuggah or Cynic because they're a bit too hard to classify and I kind of wanted to leave some music to the imagination.

"Classic" Prog Metal
Dream Theater - Images and Words NOTE: This album has some moments of arena rock influence that some may find cheesy, if you do not like this at all skip to either of the two following Dream Theater albums
Dream Theater - Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes From a Memory
Dream Theater - Octavarium
Fates Warning - A Pleasant Shade of Grey
Haken - Visions
Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Queensryche - Empire
Redemption - Snowfall on Judgement Day
Tool - Lateralus

ProgPower
Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera
Control Denied - The Fragile Art of Existence
Epica - Design Your Universe
Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian (early Fates Warning is very power metal)
Kamelot - The Black Halo
Nightwish - Imaginaerum
Symphony X - Iconoclast
Voyager - UniVers

Prog Death Metal
Atheist - Unquestionable Presence
Becoming the Archetype - Dichotomy
Be'lakor - Stone's Reach
Death - The Sound of Perseverance
Gojira - From Mars To Sirius
Insomnium - Across the Dark
Insomnium - Winter's Gate
Ne Obliviscaris - Citadel
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
The Faceless - Autotheism

Prog Black Metal
Arcturus - The Sham Mirrors
Blut aus Nord - 777 - The Desanctification
Borknagar - Quntessence
Deathspell Omega - Veritas Diaboli Manet in Aeternum: Chaining the Katechon
Emperor - Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire and Demise
Enslaved - Monumension
Enslaved - Axioma Ethica Odini
Ihsahn - Eremita
Krallice - Years Past Matter
Nokturnal Mortum - The Voice of Steel
Sigh - Hail Horror Hail
Sigh - Imaginary Sonicscape

Instrumental Prog Metal (for guitar nerds)
Animals As Leaders - The Joy of Motion
Behold... the Arctopus - Skullgrid
Cloudkicker - Beacons
Gordian Knot - Gordian Knot
Intervals - The Shape of Colour
Plini - Handmade Cities
Scale the Summit - The Migration

Prog Metalcore (much better than normal metalcore)
After the Burial - Rareform
Between the Buried and Me - Colors
Between the Buried and Me - The Parallax II: Future Sequence
Monuments - The Amanuensis
Periphery - This Time It's Personal
Periphery - Select Difficulty
Shokran - Exodus
TesseracT - Concealing Fate
The Human Abstract - Digital Veil
Toothgrinder - Nocturnal Masquerade

Non-Wankery Prog Metal
Amorphis - Skyforger
Deadsoul Tribe - A Murder of Crows
Devin Townsend - Terria
Devin Townsend Project - Epicloud

Well this was a pleasant surprise, I didn't initially ask but I see some stuff I've heard of (in the case of Progpower some stuff I've actually heard), gonna work down the list.

And all on top of that, allow me to recommend a surprisingly good deathcore album, the only one from this rather new band AngelMaker. For the most part I've stopped listening to deathcore but this is pretty damn good.

I'm in the process of creating a "Deathcore That's Actually Good" rec sheet. Most of the stuff has very little metalcore so don't fret. More along the lines of death metal with breakdowns.
