That makes no fucking sense! If you almost slept through an album, how can it possibly be that good? In my book that just screams "BAD MUSIC". Or do you rate music for acceptance?

I have a sixth sense that occasionally gives a divine vision on objectively rating music. aka I have no idea

I highly recommend you rethink your own perception of what is good music.

On a side note Rolling Thunder is such a good song.

You don't have to give an album a decent rating just because it's considered a classic. Let the rating reflect your true listening experience. Though I would hate to see Jester Race rated anything lower than 3.5...

What are you talking about? That's not how I did it. It was more like "I don't care for this at all but it is obviously very good. So a 4/5 is what it shall get." If i did that with classics because classics I'd have put Agent Orange higher than a 3.5 which because I think it is a very overrated album is rated so low to begin with.

I'm not always in the right mood for it, but man, Tales From The Thousand Lakes really hits the spot on days like today. Can't. Stop. Listening. The melodies on this album are richer than caramel.

The first three Amorphis albums are all near-perfect. But Tales is probably my favorite because it's a great middle ground in their evolution from death to prog/folk. Everything just comes together. Best of both worlds, if you will.

In other news, I just listened to "The Truth". Yes it's significantly worse than "The End". All hope for the new In Flames is gone out the window now.

That one's good but probably their least original. Elegy is fucking awesome too but I prefer the Joutsen era the most (with the exception of Tales, nothing beats that baby).

The worst In Flames song period in my opinion. I would have been happy with a decent melodic metalcore album from them but this is just sad.

Same. I even liked Siren Charms a fair bit, but this... this is just completely dull. Borderline cringey in a few spots when you consider this was once a band that pioneered an entire genre and inspired millions with their songwriting chops. Hints of their old magic have been evident to varying degrees in all of their recent albums. A golden melody evoking TJR here, an infectious refrain echoing Clayman there. So I believe they still have potential to make wonderful music...if they cared about that anymore. Or maybe those were just traces of Jesper's influence that are now finally gone.

I said this in my review: In Flames' problem nowadays is that their newer material always has traces of what made them special but it always gets ruined by something else. The first minute of The End is a perfect example. That sounded like something off R2R or even Clayman, all the way down to the vocals. But then it pretty much took a big dump over that legacy. Meanwhile Soilwork is doing what In Flames SHOULD have been doing all this time.

Fair enough, both bands were very influential to both melodeath and "core". I believe Scott Lewis of Carnifex is a big fan of Dissection. But when it comes to the "happy" sounding twin melodies...nobody does that better than Lunar to R2R era In Flames.

All three are amongst my favoritest of favorite bands. Just very different discographies. In Flames have more total volume of great music, but two of Dissection's three albums are divine masterpieces that exceed any of In Flames' individual albums. At The Gates are in the middle.

Not sure what you mean by "relevant" considering Dissection hasn't even existed in like a decade. At The Gates, however, is certainly more relevant in the metal scene right now than In Flames considering they still make, you know, quality metal. I'm looking forward to a follow-up to At War With Reality.

They do it better if you ask me. The Jester Race alone has better melodies than the entire Iron Maiden discography and that's saying something considering the latter are my second favorite band, though that's primarily for nostalgia purposes. I still consider almost all their albums to be gold (excl. No Prayer, Fear, Blaze albums, and Dance of Death) but haven't really listened to much recently.

I'm listening to that In Flames song repeatedly (Yes, I'm torturing myself), trying to figure out what it reminds me of. It just reminds me of so much shitty metal I've heard. Like cringy modern metal band you might hear on the radio. It also reminds me of something in parts. And just god, it's bad. Not really knowing the band, it's hard imagining how this was ever a band that was supposed to be good. It sounds like a new modern, shitty metal band that belong's on some, as I said before, like shitty motocross game soundtrack. And trust me, I've played enough of those to know how bad the soundtracks are.

Wow. Great Black/Grind/Noise. Crazy stuff.
