But as for the actual playing, it was nice. The melody was good and it could easily be used for a full song. The only real critique: For Odin/God/Christ's sake man get yourself a better amp

I heard some Amon Amarth covers by guys with Les Pauls and it sounded kickass, generally they seem to sound kickass in any distorted setting, especially on a tube amp, so I'm considering getting an X2N for my bridge.

This is my guitar, in Heritage Cherry Sunburst (I know, the most metal finish ever), so I'm thinking it'd look badass with one of those white X2Ns.

I need a better amp but each time I go to get one something else catches my eye. Besides, I just bought an F350 (granted a 2007 one, but still) so my bank is a little broken right now.

And it's a Roland Cube haha.

Also part of the tonal problem is that it was recorded on a phone.

It's probably just middle of the road prog-rock instead, which makes Opeth less interesting and unique then they once were. Either Opeth will manage to find a new and larger audience with their current sound, or they'll rediscover the magic of death metal after a few years of declining interest in the band.

I agree with this, but I think Opeth should make the music they want to make regardless of whether people on the outside consider it unique or not. And, as Gal said, this single is more of just a wistful folk tune than prog-rock.
