Any opinions? I hear a lot of similarities between these two OSDM albums, and both are utterly fantastic. I might lean towards the Dutch dudes by a hair.

Dammit. I'm re-listening to Altars now...and might have to change my mind. I forgot how awesome it was \m/

But in a minute I'll listen to "Chronic Infection" and that groovy riff will change my mind again

...And that completes my 80s death metal Golden Trio.

Still can't decide which is the best though. The problem with Leprosy is I've never really cared for the last two tracks that much. Altars is so consistent front to back.

Well, I just listened to Black Crown Initiate's Selves We Cannot Forgive and I must say that it greatly exceeding my expectations. Originally, I thought that it would only score about a 2.5 to a low 3.0, but I actually gave it a 4.0. On that note; I think this album will have a lot more lasting power than other albums such as Dasein and Miserycorde, which I've downgraded to 3.5/5 after repeated listens.

I sort of wonder how I had these negative perceptions about the album, but I think it was to do with the fact that when I first heard the tracks via Metal Injection the sound quality was shit and it made everything appear to be bland/monotonous. When I listened to it on Youtube, the production sounded fantastic... I've got no complaints about overly loud drums or vocals at all. A HUGE improvement over their last albums in this area, but that's just my personal tastes.

In regards to songs; I can't think of any real weaknesses what so ever. The compositions were always interesting and every track had its own personality about it. If I had to chose my favourites, they would probably have to be "Belie the Machine" and "Matriarch".

It's their best album in my opinion. They STILL use the first song as their opener and I don't blame them at all.

Definitely my favourite album from them, seeing as it was THE album that got me into Metal.

Anyway, great purchase for $5, Cos.

Can't argue with the song where the vocalist pukes on the mic or the best riff not named Christ Denied

If anyone likes a cheeky bit of blackened proggy metal, they could do far worse than checking out "Divinity" by Luna's Call. I found out about this album while looking through a bunch of review sites. Some almost melodeath-y riffs at times, some cool widdly proggy bits, proper blasty black-ish sections and a good amount of very competent clean vocals in the quieter bits.

Sounds right up my alley.

I would like to get back to this mentality too.

I've been blah with new music discovery for the last few months because it has been my first time balancing college classes with a full-time job at the same time. It's so much easier just to fall back on all my old favorites (which is still a lot of music, to be fair) and not bother with combing through the unfamiliar. Especially since most of the time I listen to music now is while working, and familiar music is much less distracting.

Summer Slaughter Tour? Thinking about going to that in a couple weeks mainly to see Nile, since I missed them last time they were here (in February I chose the At The Gates show on the same day instead). Revocation and Suffocation would also be cool to see, though Nile is the main draw for me.

Yep. Was happy they were in Fort Lauderdale, which is quite close to me, but alas.

As for me, Nile is the main attraction as well though I do want to see both Suffocation and Carnifex as well as Cannibal Corpse again.

Down the drain goes half a week's salary, but I have no regrets.

Sodom and Destruction are both coming out with new albums this year. Destruction's was mediocre which is a shame because I consider them the best of the Teutonic 4. Maybe Sodom will bump their way up if they don't shit a bomb out.
Prior to new Destruction album: Destruction, Kreator, Tankard, Sodom. Now: Kreator, Tankard, Destruction, Sodom.

Although I have not really listened to much Epica (or a whole lot of similar bands) before, I will say that this track sounds pretty sweet. Anyhow, it now look's like I will have to keep a close eye out for their upcoming album.

One thing is for certain; the month of September looks to be very promising.

So what are we going to about the Metal Thread 4 op? I won the 'election', Cosumar is the most respectable choice, and Polska is Polish those some serious credentials right there.
