Agreed.

You should listen to Deliver Me Unto Pain by Banished. It's another good, old school death metal album. One of my favorites.

Great album, the only one from said band I still care for. One of the few OSDM albums I like, too.

No I have not. I certainly will tomorrow, but to a certain point Death doesn't interest me. Like once they started going into Techier Melodic stuff.

Aww. Those are my favorites. And I have so many melodic-meets-techy death metal recommendations for people.

On another note, Blind Guardian just posted on their Facebook that they are going to play the entirety of Imaginations From The Other Side during their upcoming 2016 American Tour.

YESSSSSSSS. So glad I already have my ticket. I had given up home that I would ever hear some of my favorites like "Mordred's Song" and "A Past And Future Secret" played live.

I don't like when bands rape the stereotypical Middle Eastern minor scale. It gets boring faster than the typical AC/DC song.

Sure, but I think Myrath use it tastefully. And mix things up with enough variety in the songwriting approaches to keep things interesting. On Tales, at least. Legacy got too samey and lost the prog leanings. Your AC/DC comparison is actually rather apt for that album.

But yeah aside from maybe Orphaned Land, I don't know of any other middle-eastern bands that integrate Arabic Folk into catchy metal melodicism like Myrath does. If they're overrated, its because they don't have much competition in their niche.

Most of the time whenever I look up middle-eastern sounding metal bands I get the same repetitive minor scale stuff blended into a really generic version of whatever subgenre the band happened to already be into. So yeah, apart from Orphaned Land, Melechesh, and Myrath's Tales which if you've seen my RYM AOTY for 2011 list will know was at some point on there, I can't find much to get into.

Anyway I just started using Discogs to buy music. New purchases, all together amounting to maybe $18.
Job for a Cowboy - Genesis
My Dying Bride - The Dreadful Hours FINALLY GETTING THIS, ONE OF MY FAVORITE ALBUMS OF ALL TIME
Soilwork - The Ride Majestic
Unearth - The Stings of Conscience

I know its not metal, but listening to Slavic folk metal like Arkona, Svarga, Grai, SatanaKozel, Leshak and Stribog has really opened up various Russian and Polish folk/ethno artists to me. Like Volgast & Ochenye Soroki, and Laboratorium Piesni. Also, groups like Werchowyna, Vedan Kolod and Czeremzsyna.

Also, Metko Vizigot on Youtube is awesome for basically anything metal coming out of Eastern Europe.

That sentence wasn't worded right...it's late.

I meant that the highlighted aren't metal.

Awesome list. I just wasted 10 minutes at work reading the whole thing :p Some aspects I can strongly relate to. We're pretty similar, really.

I should attempt a similar chronicling of my music history, but I'm not sure I'll be able to remember the chronology accurately enough

I've been thinking about doing that but I haven't done it for the same reasons. So I'll just stick with that list of 4 Albums for a while longer.

In the other news: New ColdWorld album is coming out on 15th. Finally, 8 years after the debut.
