Well yeah but traditional heavy metal law does not apply to Alestorm.

Also, video is not available in Poland. But I've seen it while I was in the US so I at least recognized the title.

Update with a opinion about the music itself: I'm listening to the second song the instrumentals are at least interesting (Though forgive me for being newb about but i don't see the meta in it.) I'm not sure the vocals but the hook was good.

I hate to be that guy, but I met this guy today who said he liked metal, and I asked what his favorite bands were. He answered Pierce the Veil along with some other band I didn't catch. I just said cool and then added that I had to go, which i did. I'm sorry but that is not metal.

Ran into someone like that at the start of last year during pre-band. Said he liked metal, asked him what bands, and he said Attila. I was just kinda like "oh".

I actually like Pierce the Veil a lot, but yeah, they're nothing resembling metal.

Macabre Skies by Norselaw, which has the highest interest/quality ratio of any project I've seen. The idea of black metal mixed with rap is interesting, especially some of the ways it's put into practice but the album itself would be a 4/10 to be generous. It's got some good songs, like Le Anse Aux Meadows, but it's also got some absolute trash. Lie of the Frost Giants (Reverse Racism) is -1/10, which should be expected from the title. Basically, Norselaw doesn't get hip-hop on a fundamental level and isn't very good at it either, so the quality of the songs is mostly inversely proportional to how much rap there is in them. The rapping is bad, the drums and instrumentals are repetitive, and he can't write good rap lyrics to save his life. He's also arrogant in precisely the wrong way, which would be hard to stomach even if he was actually good.

Edit: As for metal in it, I would say it's in the aesthetics mostly, but there are some songs with more direct metal sections. The Whole Where My Head Once Lived, for example.

Hey, I'm starting a stoner/doom metal band with inspirations of Sleep and Acid Bath, I will be playing guitar, and be doing backing vocals or main vocals. Any advice for me? I already know what gear I need to get in order to get the fuzzy sound the genre needs.

Some suggestions for prog/experimental metal:
>> Intervals
>> Protest the Hero
>> CHON
>> Plini (ish, read below)
>> Polyphia (minus the early weeaboo stages)

Plini is totally cool and all, but he almost sounds poppy, still, I love the sound.
This nation is ultra-futuristic and utopian. Oh, and it floats, too.

Aiming to become a Free-Trade Paradise, but with better social funding and some actual benefit system. Also, minus the whole pyramid-type government that normally ensues after a month or two when they forget about the people at the bottom. I'm kind of hoping that's not what happens, but I'll guess I'll have to see.

All good although I need to check out Plini. Can't wait for new Protest though.

Has anyone here heard of Dead to a Dying World? They're not a very well-known band but imo they put out one of the best albums of 2015 (Litany). I think I found them while digging through an NPR Best of 2015 list, actually.

They're atmospheric black metal, but they have a sound that (I think) is pretty unique to them. They also got the vocalist from Pallbearer to provide vocals on some of their songs, which is neat because I like Pallbearer quite a bit.

Long song, but worth the listen.

You criticize Plini's poppiness but say nothing about CHON? :p

CHON is actually the only band on that list that I regularly listen to, but I've been meaning to listen to all of them for a while.

Oh yeah, hot damn, it's been a while - nearly forgot about it. I love what they're doing with this 'song a month' thing but every time a new one gets leaked I always insert my [REDACTED] into the USB drive.

The single most depressing metal song ever...everybody go!

For me it would probably be this doom metal classic.

I'm looking for some songs to get me pumped up for when I'm on my way to fight a fire. Anybody have some good recommendations? For whatever reason the Captain plays pop on the way to a fire and metal coming back, and that order is just not working for me.

Song of Myself - Nightwish

That's interesting. Personally I think that song went on for FAR TOO LONG and almost killed the album itself. Last Ride of the Day is my favorite Nightwish song and should have been the closer imo, before the orchestral outro.

It's the poem at the end that does it, the middle I could live without. I didn't know what to expect first time and I'm frankly grateful I was alone when I heard it.
if you want a shorter nightwish song that's depressing The Islander should suffice.

And that's my second favorite Nightwish song

The poem segment is what dragged on for me. I guess it just didn't click. Oh well, I'll still defend the Anette era of the band. Sure they got a better vocalist but firing her was totally uncalled for.

I'm not complaining about any of their girls. I'm not in a camp :p. I will however point out new girl looks like a dude in makeup in a few shots.

"New girl" (who I've heard people compare to Caitlyn Jenner  ) is Floor Jansen, one of the most versatile female vocalists in metal and one of the "foremothers" along with Tarja. She even contributed some growls to the latest Nightwish album and has guested on stuff from bands like Ayreon, DTP, Mayan (Mark Jansen from Epica's more death metal side project), and Soilwork.

I like Nightwish but I'm still sitting in the Tarja camp :p

Granted I'm not a fanboy or some shit and I enjoyed the latest album and I liked some of the stuff with Anette too. I just prefer early Nightwish, Oceanborn was gold along with Century Child, Wishmaster was great and Once is great too but I find you have to be in a certain mood for it to really click, still a kickass album though despite people saying it was uninspired.
