Tales From The Thousand Lakes was a bigger commercial success, so much is true.

I think the only fault in that album is the rather typical vocals. Joutsen has a much more varied style and more energy than Koivusaari ever had. It's a little bit like George Fisher and Chris Barnes. One might have sounded more raw and brutal but the other sounds more alive.

I've got the first two albums of Amorphis (with The Karelian Isthmus being a fortunate find during the Netherlands Deathfest), the Black Winter Day single, the My Kantele EP and the Am Universum album. I am aware of the various sides of the band. I've always considered Amorphis to be rather similar to Paradise Lost.

You're quite right. Strictly going on opinion though my comparisons include neither having a bad album and both having more consistent work later in their careers.

I only own Eclipse.

But the first three are definitely on my wish-list. I never see them anywhere, even at the metal record stores. (I rarely order CDs online, I prefer going on treasure hunts in-person and being surprised by my finds)

...

Is anyone else looking forward to the new Vektor album, Terminal Redux?

One of the few newer thrash metal bands I care about.

And I don't own any Amorphis CDs but have heard them all and Under the Red Cloud is still being shipped. The first three as well as the "comeback trilogy" of Eclipse, Silent Waters, and Skyforger are essentials. Though Under the Red Cloud has quickly become my third favorite Amorphis album, hands down. Meanwhile the latest Paradise Lost release is my second favorite of theirs, right behind Draconian Times.

Looks like the My Dying Bride compilation Trinity in its texture. That's a CD I really need to get since it has some of my favorite songs from them, especially Symphonaire.

I expected it to be some sort of unimaginative newer thrash metal.

Speaking of which, a friend mentioned this band Generation Kill, Rob Dukes' band. Considering how I don't like Exodus it's obvious I would dislike this. But I didn't know how fucking boring it would be. It's not Municipal Waste level cringey but there's absolutely nothing interesting going on!
