The Power of the Doctor is the Centenary title. Not a bad title, if only The Power of the Daleks didn't exist, but wouldn't be the first time they nicked a title off from a Dalek story.

Insofar as the Chibnall years had hits to play, that played them. One of his best stories. At no point did I feel myself dying inside.

Pretty fun and epic. It borrowed some elements from past stories (most notably the NuWho series 2 finale, as well as day of the doctor). Also a few moments had me genuinely laughing.

Especially the ending.
I knew Tennant was due to return but I thought RTD would save him for a multi-Doctor story with Gatwa.

The villains were pretty good, and most of the SFX was still pretty excellent. The train and backgrounds at the beginning didn't look so good though TBH.

Still, a fun finale and fitting send-off for Whittaker and Chibnall. Chibnall wanted to go out on a high note, and whilst it wasn't as good as day of the doctor, it was still pretty satisfying.

William Russell is 97 years old.

That was a very, very special moment.

And if you don't understand the reference, don't Google, and I won't have spoiled anything for you.

Probably, yes. Bit of a shame, really. There were still odd Chibnall plot holes, details glossed over, and exposition dumps; but this time it didn't matter as much.

And as a conclusion to the 13th Doctor's run and as a 60th anniversary / BBC centenary episode, it worked. Maybe if Chibnall had 90 minutes for all of his episodes, we'd remember him more fondly.

And of course a final appearance by the era's obsession with location captions.

Good riddance you preaching, preening hack of a writer. You were a stain on this franchise and I hope your next gig is directing fast food commercials for the rest of your life.

So I watched this episode having not bothered to watch any of the intervening ones I've missed or, indeed, find out what happened in them. Oh, and, of course, I recognised none of the old characters from before the revival. I'm not sure it's a good or a bad thing that the episode was comprehensible.

I guess my feeling is that I'd finally got the point of and started liking Capaldi's version in his last go of it, but that ended up being it and we got Arachnids in the UK instead. Of course, I aggressively dislike the guitar tank thing or whatever it was (and many other parts of the first two thirds of Capaldi's turn), so it's entirely possible if I'd watched more of Chibnall/Whittaker's episodes Whittaker's version would've clicked too, but, on the other hand, I wasn't wowed by this apparently noticeably improved episode.

This article is a bit of an overreaction, but I wouldn't say without a point. Disney is about the worst with anything with good gay representation, and now they've got their mitts on a show that's been queer as a $3 bill since it came back. It makes me worry just a bit.

So Disney has (distribution to) Doctor Who now? I really am just waiting for Discovery to sell off the Looney Tunes to Disney. Or buy Hasbro I guess.

Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.

There should be some kind of...not necessarily 'rule' because it becomes a bit artificial for it to be this cut and dry but rather 'guideline' that says if a Dalek shows up, a recurring character has to die. Not (just) a character that was introduced in the story, but someone who has actually 'mattered' enough to show up in multiple episodes.

I was thinking of this as Daleks showed up more and more after the first season or two did such a good job of building their menace via reputation but the more they show up the more they become just another foe that the Doctor outwits but is angry about it.

(though never as angry as he was at those people that hunted him down after he hid his personality in a watch)

Any Doctor Who I'd write would probably be a hot mess, though. So whatever my 'advice' matters.
