Personally, I hope it's Mark Gatiss. I know not every episode he's written has been gold (e.g. Victory of the Daleks, Sleep No More) but he's also wrote some genuinely fun, compelling, thrilling and frightening stories like The Unquiet Dead, Night Terrors, Cold War, The Crimson Horror and Empress of Mars.

As for the new Doctor, I don't particularly whether they choose a man or a woman, or what the ethnicity/race they are. For me personally, I might go with Richard Ayoade, Jessica Henwick, Adil Ray, Bhavna Limbachia, Maya Sondhi, Hannah Spearritt, Colin Morgan, Rasmus Hardiker, Idris Elba, Noel Fielding, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Letita Wright, Thandie Newton, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Daniel Kaluuya, Helena Bonham Carter or Benedict Wong.

I came back to Doctor Who briefly when Steven Moffat finally left and I remember thinking "Man, Capaldi was wasted with Moffat around. Jodie Whittaker's a great choice and I hope Chibnall can set this train back on course". How I was the fool. I guess I'll start watching again when we get the next Doctor.

Doctor Who is a lot less radical and progressive under Chibnall than it was before. If you think "political correctness" is the problem that either means you haven't seen Doctor Who or watched a lot of it but were either too young or too distracted to pick up on any of the subtext. Like, look at Aliens of London/World War 3. It's about aliens embedded in the government producing fake evidence of an alien invasion in order to start a war, for profit, and was made in 2005. It's a staggeringly obvious allegory. In Turn Left the WW2 veteran Wilf watches foreigners being loaded onto trucks by soldiers to be taken to work camps and says "Labour camps, that's what they called them last time, it's happening again". In The Beast Below Starship UK continues to function because the citizens choose to forget that it works because an innocent creature is being exploited. That's not an idea that exists in a fucking vacuum. In Oxygen the Doctor fights against a company which has commoditised the necessity of breathable air much like necessities like food, water, and shelter are commoditised in our world. In Kerblam!, however, the Doctor says that systems aren't the problem.

In The Curse of Peladon from 1974 the Doctor helps persuade a planet to join the Galactic Federation while forming a friendlier relationship with his former enemies The Ice Warriors. Britain was in the process of joining the European Community at the time.

I used to love Doctor Who. I began falling out of love with it – but stuck with it – during the Capaldi years. Fantastic actor. When Chibnall and Whittaker were announced, as someone who liked Broadchurch, I thought Doctor Who would be different but I was open-minded to that.

But then it began. Jesus. The absolutely contrived writing, the senseless, see-through plots, the woke bullsh*t... It was heartbreaking and I couldn't stomach one of my favourite TV shows and premises being absolutely bludgeoned. I stopped watching routinely somewhere in the middle of Whittaker's first season. She's a good actress and, like Capaldi, is wasted on crap scripts and worse storylines.

After all the furore over the last season final, I had to watch just to see what the craic was and, honestly, Chibnall has just utterly binned and degraded 50 years of nuanced, carefully constructed lore in favour of, well, I don't even know wtf that was... (Beyond this daft wokeness he's obsessed with! It sounds dramatic but that's all I can call it.)

He's literally just f**king ruined Doctor Who past and present. Good riddance. I hope an actually talented future writer manages to find a way to absolutely and unequivocally undo everything he's "added" to the Doctor lore and erase his legacy.
