Time to play "What does Chibnall wanna preach about today?" Today's winner is...religious witch hunts!

Christ, that episode was a dreary slog. Even Alan Cumming couldn't elevate it.

I think this series is kind of marmite you either really like it or hate it. Personally I've really liked it I admit it isn't the best series overall I think Chibnall writing is marmite generally like with Torchwood I haven't come across one person who thinks it was ok it's either like or hate. I quite like the humans as the enemies concept I know many don't but it's a nice change of pace, to be fair though in old doctor who there were plenty of human enemies and many of the aliens were just metaphors to humans with the most famous probably being the cybermen. I'm interested in seeing where the finale goes I'm expecting the Stenza and the departure of Graham by some means but what else is anyone's guess.

Ive enjoy this season quite a bit, as ive mentioned before nothing in this season has been outstanding or particularly great imo but ive found the season to just be decent so far, ive liked the performances, i like the characters (though they could have been fleshed out better and given more room to breath and really take form) and ive liked most of the stories. I agree that for most people it will probably be a case of like it or hate it.

I'm not sure why the last episode is getting negative feedback here. I thought it was pretty good, by the standards of the present season.
I liked Alan Cumming's portrayal of James VI and I, and it was nice to have a more traditional monster for once. The bit of feminist preachiness was forgivable given the episode's setting and the fact that the human villain of the episode was a woman. For some reason we don't seem to be seeing much of the TARDIS at the moment- I wonder if that's a conscious decision.

I quite liked this episode up until the whole alien mud men war criminals thing which... just came out of fucking nowhere and felt off, so good up until the last 5-10 minutes.

The guy who played the king was fucking great, he was the highlight of the episode, entertaining in every scene especially with Ryan. Actress who played becca i thought did a pretty good job, liked her performance, again i dont think any of the cast did badly. Graham with the fucking witch hunter hat was great, it just looked soo silly on him.

Lets see what happens next week in the abandoned Norwegian cabin with the moth and creepy voice

Here's the issue with this season, aside from Chibanll's aforementioned preachy crap: He's made it feel less alien. They barely spend any time in the TARDIS, the monsters/villains (Racist from the future, giant spiders and Not!Trump, racist from the past, future Unabomer, etc.) are human and/or of earthy origin, and the locations (Abandoned hotel, middle of nowhere India, Alabama, evil CostCo, dreary British village in witch times) are dull as crap.

TL;DR: It's BORING. Especially with him eschewing any classic villains.

I wonder if this next one will be a follow in to the finale kind of like with turn left in series 4 since they are all single episodes but a one episode finale may be a bit hollow unless they made it about an hour long like the first episode.

Ok I have one hypothetical question. Assume you were younger about 6-9 years old you never watched doctor who before assume you like sci fi as well. Would you notice or think that there is lots of political correctness in it? And would you think to pick apart the locations that they are set in? as this is hypothetical no answer is 100% certain but I can say with a reasonable degree of certainty I probably wouldn't ask that kind of stuff take the last episode I would see people being drowned in witch trials, some mud coming out the ground, a totally not camp king, people being possessed and the hill is a prison. You've got to remember that the majority of doctor who's audience is children of that age and their families and assuming everyone on this forum feed didn't lie about their age the people posting here are most likely teenage to young adult range they are going to see a different perspective but at the same time we are a much smaller minority in the market. So although I will respect your opinion in the bigger picture your opinion will carry less weight because most won't see the show like that.
Merry Christmas!

Graham's in the New Years' Day special (As are Ryan and Yas) so he's not going until then at least.
