You're thinking of Zoe, I think. Victoria was Victorian.

Damn it, I need to watch the Classics again.
But yeah, that's 2, possibly 3 companions (depending on whether you class Katarina as one).

The name Katarina is ringing a bell (I'll probably look it up after posting this), but I can't quite remember her. I did know all this a lot better in the past, but last year Doctor Who played less of a role in my life due to STAR WARS

I can remember Victoria because of her name - she's Victorian. And she joined the TARDIS crew after her father was killed by the Daleks.

EDIT: Ok so Katarina was only in for a (relatively) short time, originally from ancient Troy, but only appeared in two stories, The Myth Makers and The Daleks' Master Plan (although to be fair, TDMP was 12 episodes long), for those who don't know.

No-one's posted the guardian's news on doctor who for this month, I see. Here's the one saying the 12th Doctor will appear in class (good news) and the one that says he's accusing the BBC of neglecting the show (bad news). So what do you think, whovians and Dr Who fans of NS?

BTW, my college's additional suppport now has these two doctor who books

Meh. I don't think I'm going to bother with Class. I'm well past the age of caring about a high school drama, even if they have The Doctor in an episode. There were so many other potential spin-offs the fans wanted. I don't think an even more child friendly version of The Sarah Jane Adventures was what fans were looking for.

As for Capaldi, I want him to stay until at least series 11. Give him more time to shine and particularly under a new showrunner. Hopefully we'll find out if he's staying on sooner rather than later.

I'm still surprised we haven't heard anything about the next companion other than rumors. I would have thought we'd have heard something by now, especially if filming for series 10 is supposed to be starting soon.

I think you mean "less child friendly". Class is aimed at teenagers (12-16) AFAIK , whereas SJA was aimed at children aged 6-10 or so, and SJA focused more on the home lives of Rani, Luke and Clyde. As for me, some doctor who content is better than none at all and I'm an optimist.

I also want Capaldi to stay.

Well, with Dr who it can be hard to know what's a rumor and what's real until the episode is released.

Well, I'm a big Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, so the fact that its a high school drama isn't a problem in and of itself.

But then, a show of Buffy's caliber, capable of so transcending the usual genre limitations, is very, very rare.
"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

Well have you ever heard of Sturgeon's law? 90% of everything is bad, but the remaining 10% is worth dying for.

And besides, Class will take inspiration from BTVS (I know Buffy is still popular, but why not something more recent? I'm sure the genre has changed since then).

Hopefully we'll get some more LGBT representation. I mean, it's not a make-or-break thing for me, but it would be nice, considering that they were going to give Luke Smith a boyfriend in series 6 of SJA.

On that note, I'd love to see the gang from SJA reappear in Class or even Who itself.

I think you might mean series 5. Series 5 seemed like it was going to be the end of SJA even if Elizabeth Sladen hadn't died, from what I could find out about the scripts to unfilmed episodes.
After making Mr Smith human, having Sky defeat the trickster and Rani and Clyde getting married, what else could they do?

But yes, LGBT representation would be nice. I think if they SJA gang does appear, they'll probably mentors/veterans giving advice to a new generation of alien fighters.

I like that. I always thought that Luke might go into UNIT as scientist/advisor, especially after Kate Stewart's reforms, but at the same time it would go against the pacifist civilian themes and character of the SJA characters. I could see Rani being a trustworthy media contact for UNIT, to tip them off about things they need to know about, or to disseminate cover-up stories etc.

So the latest rumor is that the companion has now been cast, according to Capaldi, and the details will be announced soon.

Source: Radio Times

I don't know how trustworthy the source is or if this is completely made up, but it's nice to hear some news on the companion front.

So who wants to bet that the new companion is going to be yet another twenty-something white heterosexual woman from present day UK?

Their's been a bit of talk about a Muslim companion, and while Muslim is not a race and white people can be Muslims, in practice, that probably means non-white (if its true, of course).

Sadly, it also most likely means a human from modern Earth again.

Sigh... all of time and space to play with, and they stay inside the box.

I'll dispute the implication that companions are generally heterosexual, though. There's quite a bit of evidence that Amy and Clara were bisexual. And there's Captain Jack, of course, if he counts.

In addition to everything else that had been said, bisexuals like both sexes, so that quote doesn't prove anything

Yeah, they explained why the 12th doctor looks like Lobus Caecilius but not John Frobisher (I know RTD said John is Caecilius' descendant,
and he died in order to balance the changes to the timeline the 10th doctor made
). Moffat said they'd explain both in series 9 but they only did Caecilius. *Sigh*

to be fair, they did have a quite literal universe reboot in season 5, so the writers could use that as an excuse to bring him back. Not a good one mind you but one none the less.
