They took it all off Netflix. :(

The first 4 seasons of RD are on the UK version of Netflix. Perhaps due to having a similar target audience to doctor who, the BBC doesn't want Doctor Who to enter a more competitive market.

In 2009, there was Being Human, the 2nd series of merlin and Ashes to Ashes, the first series of Being Human, the 3rd series of SJA and TW, the 3rd series of Primeval, the final series of Battlestar Galactica, the new series of Red Dwarf, the 2nd series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, The new star trek movie, the Australian K-9 series and The Prisoner miniseries.

In 2012, there was Wizards vs Aliens, the penultimate series of Misfits, the final series of Being Human and Merlin, Gravity falls on Disney XD (arguable example), the final series of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the first series of Primeval New World.

And this year, there is a new red dwarf, the aliens, the new Star Trek movie, and Class (I'm sure there are more than these, but I was picking the ones I can remember).

Merlin was one of the shows that filled in the gap when Doctor Who was between series anyways. Same with Atlantis, and then others.

I know that. I was just thought that over-saturation of the market may be the reason for lack of Doctor Who content.

I found this video and I thought-hey why not? SOME of the options-like Loki Hiddleston, Rumplestiltskin Carlyle, White Witch Swinton (but she'd get annoying), I MIGHT be able to live with Simon Pegg (though he was already in a previous episode of DW), or Atkinson, Dominic Monangham, but Martin Freeman would make a good one. Personally, Johnny Depp would make an excellent Doc, too. My favorites are Carlyle, Hiddleston, Monangham, and Freeman. Depp was just added by me because of reasons.

New Doctor Who-monster files spiritual successor. Weird thing though, they feature Malohkeh as an evil silurian, when he was merely a scientist who did no permanent harm to the humans and other surface creatures he experimented on. I'm surprised they didn't have the ones from Warriors of the Deep, or Alaya/Restac as the silurians 'who are capable of great evil'.

Capaldi has been asked to keep playing the Doctor after Moffat leaves, but has not yet confirmed his agreement:

"Our progress in degeneracy appears to me to be pretty rapid. As a nation, we began by declaring that "all men are created equal." We now practically read it "all men are created equal, except negroes" When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and Catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty -- to Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy." - President Abraham Lincoln.

So, the next companion may be Muslim:

www.radiotimes.com/news/2016-03-07/pete ... -come-soon

I have no problem with it in and of itself, of course. But I do have deep doubts that the current writing staff can handle the politics around attitudes toward Muslims intelligently. The Zygon story last season attempted to address the refugee crisis, and it was to some extent an offensive mess.

I also am bothered by the assumption that the next companion will be female, the sexist implications of a show where the default is an older male lead (the Doctor) and a pretty young female sidekick (the companion), and the fact that it looks like we'll be getting yet another young human woman from modern Earth, because God forbid Doctor Who write outside that box when they have a whole universe to work with.

I'd forgive everything, or at least give them the benefit of the doubt, if they went with a Muslim from a different time period though.

If we have a Muslim character from the past, I want Saladin.

Of course, we might not be getting a specifically Muslim character and it just so happens that a Muslim woman auditioned for the role of companion.

If you mean the daleks, they keep him around (at least at first, and the reason they keep resurrecting him) is because they need his intelligence. The Kaleds likely did so for the same reason.

I think it was more intended as an allegory for conflicts with Daesh, as opposed to the refugee crisis (that was a secondary subplot). I've seen plenty of comics and cartoons (Mega Robo Bros in the Phoenix, Eddsworld, We Bare Bears) where Muslims appear, and no-one questions their race or religion at all (mostly because they're aimed at children I think). I'd personally like the next companion to be male, partially because it would be unusual for Dr Who and partially because of a lack of positive Muslim male characters in media (most of the cartoons and comics I mentioned have mostly Muslim Women).

Indeed.

If they want a Muslim, great. Let's have one from the Ottoman Empire, or the Crusades, or the future, or something like that.

I would love to see Capaldi stay. Three seasons isn't enough to contain his awesomeness. He's doing a great job and I hope he agrees to stay.

Chelta wrote:JUST NOT ANOTHER YOUNG "NORMAL" MIDDLE CLASS BRITISH WOMAN FROM THE 21ST CENTURY PLEEEEEASE

Agreed. The "white heterosexual twenty-something woman from present day UK" trope is well overdone at this point. I want to see a completely different companion.

I also hope that we can have just a regular companion and not a companion that is a huge mystery or another "Impossible Girl" like Clara. I don't think the companion should overshadow The Doctor.

I think it's about bloody time we got a companion from the past. The only ones we've ever had were Jamie and Victoria (that I can think off the top of my head, please correct me if I'm wrong), and they were great. Speaking of, Frazer Hines and Wendy Padbury have said that they'd be willing to return if asked (for those who know what happened to them I think that'd be pretty swell.

Anyway, I'd like to see a fuller TARDIS team too, at least 2 full-time companions, and preferrably a non-human companion.

Indeed.

If they want a Muslim, great. Let's have one from the Ottoman Empire, or the Crusades, or the future, or something like that.

Victoria was from the future.
The only ones from the past I can think of are Jamie and Katarina (sort of).
