May I ask do you have something personal against Chibnall I don't think you've liked one episode so far and none of them are bad I appreciate that none has been really up there but at the same time they were much better than any episode in series 7,8 or 9.

I actually liked the first three episodes a reasonable amount, moreso than a lot of Chibnall's previous work on Doctor Who and Torchwood. They were reasonably fun, which is more than can be said of a lot of Moffat's era in general. Solid 6/10s for the first two, solid 7/10 for Rosa. Arachnids was pretty poor though, aside from all the bits focusing on Graham.

Nope. Next week's Chibnall again then he's doing the finale.

I really liked it, although I have to agree with Huskar on the spiders. Yorkshire will be cleansed with nuclear fire.

I also think Robertson will return as a sort of Harriet Jones or Harold Saxon (sans a heart). His election to the White House will be important for at least one episode going forward. I think every episode so far has laid a piece of the puzzle: Toothy Aliens, the Child, 2000 deaths, the president of the US.

Regarding the Time Vortex: I found the concept very intriguing. It was chaotic, beyond our understanding, and that hub of vortexes really spoke to me somehow.

Also, the Doctor as trouble leaving people behind, which is very much unlike her previous incarnations. The Doctor is no longer the one who never looks back because she dares not, out of shame.

Arachnids was a lot of fun, really different to last week; genre variety has always been one of the highlights of Dr. Who

Interesting Mix of origins with the spiders being genetically engineered then covered in Toxic Waste.

Main characters proved likeable once again, and we got to see more of their 21st century lives as well. The parts with Graham were really tragic.

Surprising that the hotel owner character didn't die.

Good that they pointed out that arthropods couldn't breathe at enlarged sizes unless the atmosphere was different.

Best episode by far.
Lots of fun, but suitably creepy at times too. Yaz is good when she's actually given something to do, and this episode was just generally better at balancing screentime for all four characters. Not quite sure how locking all the spiders in a room is humane, though; presumably they'll tear each other apart once the food runs out.

Arachnids in the UK was a pretty decent offering, even if it was basically The Green Death meets The Planet of the Spiders. The Doctor still comes across as weaker than her previous incarnations. She just doesn't have the fierceness in her character that most previous Doctors were able to summon.

She did have a moment of fierceness last week, when she stomped that vortex manipulator. But I think we still have to see some of her real spirit. It took us a while to see Angry 11.

I wanted an episode about fighting giant spiders. I got an hour of political messages on gun control, pollution and a not-at-all veiled stand-in for President Cheeto Skin.

An episode with giant spiders and corrupt politicians. Only Doctor Who could manage to pull that off and make it entertaining.

Although I was surprised that the politician didn't get any sort of punishment or karma. He got away with everything, just like in real life.

The weirdest thing is that pistols such as the one used by Bonald Brump and his bodyguard are strictly prohibited in the United Kingdom, which probably should have prompted some reaction from Yas, who is a police officer.

This felt very much "peak Doctor Who". I liked it, nothing groundbreaking, but a lot of fun and also I was absolutely terrified the whole time because fuck spiders.

Anyway, new poll up. Final aggregate rating for "Rosa" was 3.56, a drop of 0.21 from the previous week's average, despite getting over three times as many "5" ratings, and so definitely an indicator of how polarizing it was. Full scorekeeping thus far is at the bottom of the OP.

So far, Jodie Whittaker is much better than Capaldi has been, to be honest. But Jesus fuck, that Arachnids episode is just... thanks a lot for making me be terrified of spiders.

That is the whole point. Chibnail is channeling David Tennant's Doctor. Tenant episode 1, the Sycorax: Harriet Jones shoots Monster of the Week, so Doctor destroys her career, destroys Britain's Golden Age and makes Saxon the Master PM of UK.

Arachnids
Villain of the Week shoots Monster of the Week and Doctor just nags him. No career destruction for Trump 2.0.

So Ryan uses rap music (is it rap music?) to lure the spiders into the panic room. Genius.

Just watched the third episode. Really could've done without the heavy-handed propaganda.

And honestly, I'm not really liking Jodie as the Doctor so far, it seems like the companions are doing the heavy lifting with saving the universe and she's just along for the ride...

Not exactly a great episode about spiders. What was with the guy who wanted to be president? For all of Trump's horrendous faults, he has something that this prick lacked to become President and that's charisma...
