Depends what you have access to. If you're in the UK, every post-2005 episode is currently on iplayer and Netflix. Start with Series 1 episode 1. Series 5 or or the current one, 11, would also be good points to jump in. Series 2 and 8 would be okay, but not ideal, since those introduce new Doctors but not entirely new supporting casts.

You might be able to get it on Amazon? That's generally the international home of streaming Doctor Who now.

I recommend you start with the first season of the new show. Just be prepared for pretty outdated effects.

Listening to it back I don't think the drums are an adequate substitute for a proper bass. What would have been really good is matching the Derbyshire melody with the Howell bassline, which are the two best versions of each.

"More like a sonic Swiss army knife, only without the knife. Only idiots carry knives."

My favorite line of the episode.

Great episode, I am absolutely in love. Jodie is adorable but still a totally badass Doctor. Fell in love with the companions immediately, even Grace. Was actually sad to her die at the end - cried during Graham's speech at the funeral - please keep letting this season hit me with emotional punches, I love a good cry. And - for the first time in I don't recall how long - the villain alien actually terrified me and despite knowing that the Doctor would figure things out and save [almost] everyone I was actually perplexed and worried that she wouldn't be able to fix it for a few minutes. Those are the kinds of villains we need, ones that terrify us.

But above all, more important than all else, fuck bicycles.

Inb4 all three companions die and all the trailers got us expecting one set of cast and an entirely new set of cast show up for episode three.

The Howell theme was used for the last series of Tom Baker's run, for all of Peter Davison's, and the first series of Colin Baker's. Sylvester McCoy got the Keff McCulloch arrangement: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rDK_2ZB4_xs

(Colin Baker's second series used a version arranged by Dominic Glynn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pI-e5-lHFRs)

Not a huge surprise; a female Doctor was always going to get people tuning in out of curiosity if nothing else. The question is whether the ratings boost will last.

Yeah, no show is gonna maintain 8 million viewers weekly. It'll drop back to regular viewer number soon enough.

Well, going by Wikipedia, the earlier seasons generally got between 6 and 9 million per episode, with plenty getting above 8. There was a hefty drop around the start of Capaldi's second series, with most episodes getting between 4 and 6 million. I don't know nearly enough about TV ratings to say if that reflects an actual decline in the number of viewers or if it has something to do with how people were watching.

My high school Music Theory teacher just felt the urge to laugh and doesn't know why, bless him. Idk, maybe it's your speakers or something but there's a pretty clear bass line to me.

EDIT: I'm thinking it might be that, which means an issue with the mix. Gave it a listen without headphones (my laptop speakers are shit) and when you're not getting as much bass from the speaker I can see how the line gets lost among the percussion.
