Indeed.

Prediction time: Whittaker will be good in the role almost immediately (at least, as good as any new Doctor is). If all three companions are being introduced in this first episode, the story will be weighed down by that and it'll feel like it could have been a lot better, even if it's not actually bad. One of them will probably stand out above the other two, and that one will not be Bradley Walsh.

I'm predicting good acting, dialogue, and cinematography that will be balanced out by appalling characterisation, plotting, and production design.

One of the four stood out above the others. Poor Grace, but good of the series to have the guts to have somebody die in such a fashion.

So, positives and negatives:
+ Ryan and Graham are good characters
+ I like the way Thirteen is written
+ The new theme is excellent
+ It's excellently shot
- Most of the performances, especially Jodie Whittaker's, were pretty stilted and wooden
- Yaz is pretty bland

6/10. Could have been worse, could have been better.

Thought it was a decent enough first episode for the season. Nothing mind blowing but good enough.

As for the new Doctor herself, yeah i like her, good peformance from Jodie, same with the new companions. Was not amazing, but i liked them, i'd agree that Yaz is probably the worst out of them, but she could improve as it goes on.

Ill probably make a few more edits to this as i go, currently doing something.

Should make a poll
Alien's facial features were a bit... unsettling and not as good looking i thought as the armour design though, it was cool looking, wish he kept his armour on. And the tracker tentacle ball thing was cool though it didnt do much really, reminded me a bit of the anomalies in the Metro Games in terms of its design.

Saw the Nan dying, was not too surprised considering she was not in the trailers that much.

Interesting to see how they end up not being trapped in the vacuum of space next episode, guessing the ship you see in the preview for the next episode grabs them.

OP updated. A reminder to please use spoiler tags.

I liked it. A lot. Jodie is the Doctor, very effortlessly so. Graham and Ryan were the standouts, I agree, but I expect Yaz will be more developed soon. Poor Grace! She was my new fav. Segun Akinola is a genius. Overall, probably Chibnall's best episode he's written, and I'm very excited for the rest of the series.

Good Episode

I like Jodie Whittaker's performance, but it seemed very similar to Matt Smith's portrayal. Whilst Smith is my favourite Doctor, I want to see Jodie's incarnation develop her own traits.

Funny coincidence they did an episode with the same basic premise as The Predator films (an alien is hunting humans as part of a ritual) at the same time a new one was being released.

Very well shot.

The companions were likeable and believable.

Anyone got theories on the rest of the series I've seen a few in the future, the present and one which looks 15th-18th century Europe by a guess.

There's going to be a witch trial themed one at some point with James the I and VI.

If there's any mention of burning witches in it I'm instantly docking it a point out of ten.

All I can say, is damn, that was a good way to start things off.

That was probably one of the best introductions to a new Doctor the series has done in a long time.

The plot was fairly simple, which was, I thought, a good move, as it allowed more time to focus on the character work and introducing all these new people.

Yeah last good one was David Tennents and the killer Christmas tree still liked Matt Smiths though I can't remember Peter Capaldi's which says a lot.

Yeah, the only memorable part about Twelve's first episode was Clara getting the times in her annoying face.

The Eleventh Hour was better. Yeah, Moffat's tenure rapidly devolved into a wank vortex that swallowed the whole of Matt Smith's era into it, but the Eleventh Hour was good. Deep Breath, Capaldi's first episode... wasn't.
