Taking a break from the Monthly Range for a moment (since I've only got one left on Spotify and it's the four hour long surrealist epic Zagreus), I've started on The Lost Stories, which are adapted from unused TV scripts and story outlines. Some surviving writers adapted their own scripts, while others were adapted by members of the Big Finish team. The first series is mostly scripts intended for the original season 23, with the Sixth Doctor and Peri, with a few other scripts written for other Sixth Doctor seasons.

TLS Series 1 Story 1 The Nightmare Fair by Graham Williams, adapted for audio by John Ainsworth (6th Doctor and Peri) - The TARDIS falls through a time well to Blackpool in the 1980s. The Doctor and Peri enjoy the attractions of a nearby funfair, but soon find themselves ensnared in the Celestial Toymaker's latest game. However, taking on The Doctor is a mere sideshow for the Toymaker this time; he wants to play with everyone on the planet... The Nightmare Fair is fine. Nothing particularly daring or experimental, but that's to be expected for a series opener from the 1980s. The Toymaker is nicely updated to fit with what was then modern day, and they get through the script without saying the N-word once. John Ainsworth has done an excellent job adapting the script to work as an audio, and bringing the Sixth Doctor more into line with his normal Big Finish portrayal. Not essential listening, but not a total waste of time. 6.5/10

Looking at some of Chibnall's previous work, particularly The Power of Three and Dinosaurs on a Spaceship, I get the sense that he's fairly comfortable writing for a large cast. I feel like he can probably handle it pretty well.

Saw a few snippets of the doctor who panel at SDCC, Jodie seems like a very nice person, but based on what i saw she seemed very nervous when it came to answering questions. Might just not be used to attending that kind of convention i guess.

Browsing her filmography, this seems to be her first foray into sci-fi...poor woman has no idea the annoying fanbase she''s stepped into.

Well she was in Attack the Block, which is a sci fi movie with aliens invading part of london (John Boyega was in it too, first thing i saw him in). She was also in an episode of Black Mirror, but this will definitely be her most prominent sci fi role. And i'd say that would make her quite nervous.

Three new companions with a new Doctor under a new showrunner? Well, all right, but something doesn't stop being ambitious just because someone else has pulled it off. Was the series good?

Peter Davidson's first serial had three.

1) Davison inherited all his companions, whose introductions had been staggered over several serials anyway (Adric in Full Circle, Nyssa in the Keeper of Traken, and Tegan in Logopolis).
2) Davison appeared in serials, most of which were about 100 minutes, far longer than any story in the new series will be (since two parters are out).
3) John Nathan Turner wanted to axe Nyssa; she was only kept on because Davison insisted. This is why she's unconscious for most of Kinda.

Kinda and Earthshock are the only ones I'd recommend.

Wait, no two parters anymore?

Nope. Doctor Who can work in 50 minute chunks, but it is going to limit how much more interesting ideas can be fleshed out, and 45 minute syndrome has been a recurring problem in New Who.

Also having Doctor Who with no cliffhangers is borderline criminal.

Did have a cracking speech though. But as long as the stories are good, i honestly dont mind if there are not as many two parters in the future of Dr Who, some were really fucking good, but im okay with it for this season.

Could be just finding their feet with a new doctor and crew, might see them in the future.

So...do you think multi part adventures should be brought back?

Yugoslavia's back baby...

How the hell did this happen?
Well...we don't actually know. Just sort of happened one day.
Is it a reunited Yugoslavia in the 21st century? Is a rebel colony world in the far future? Is it a race of cyborg neo-life at war with any assimilating organisms they come across in the far far future? Who knows, who cares?
New Yugoslavia just is.

Yeah dont see why not, i would miss them if they were gone personally, but for the first season of a new show runner and new doctor i dont mind that much.
