Nope, this is the most welcoming they've ever indicated for a female Doctor.

Likewise. Looking forward to it now! (Especially given it'll be under a new show runner. Moffat's writing got really tired.)

Fact is at the end of the day, most of the people who will rage about this will still watch the fucking show, its the same with everything. The Majority of people who cried about the lead cast for Force Awakens and Rogue One for example, they went and fecking watched it.

Interesting. I've only seen Whittaker in Broadchurch, so I'd never have considered her as a potential Doctor. Do we know if she's played any similar roles in the past?

I'm relieved that it's not Kris Marshall. I'm sure he's a nice guy and everything, but his acting leaves much to be desired and would have been too one-note for The Doctor.

Hopefully they treat a female Doctor seriously, so I hope we don't get boob jokes and that sort of thing. They need to prove that this casting isn't a "gimmick".

Crysuko wrote:And we have all the reactionary rage to look forward to

Unfortunate, but also true. This is why we can't have nice things.

I sincerely hope that people will give her a chance.

Ive seen her in nothing so i have no comment on her at the moment, in fact it was the same with Tennant, Smith and to an extent Capaldi. The former two i had literally never seen before until Doctor Who (and thought they were both brilliant) Capaldi i had seen snippets of but not that much but heard he was a great actor, and thought he was great.

Eccleston was the only doctor of the new series i had seen in anything other than Doctor who.

She was good in Attack the Block which is quite similar.

Oh, then yeah i have seen her in something. I have not seen that film in ages but thought all the main cast did a great job.

I haven't seen her act in anything -- going to embark upon looking at clips of her doing so on YouTube to get a sense of her -- but god, she looks the part.

I really should see Broadchurch before Christmas.

I haven't seen her in anything before, the same was true with Eccleston and Smith. I was familiar with Capaldi from the couple of episodes with him as the hilarious Malcom Tucker I saw, and of course David Tennant was in Goblet of Fire (although only a bit part and not enough for me to judge him on).

I'm pretty sure The Chibs wanted a reliable person he had worked with before, and I seriously doubt political correctness had anything to do with it, but I'm sure people will whine about it regardless.

On an unrelated note, we do have our first blond Doctor since Davidson.

I wonder what her main attire will be. It better be groundbreaking, challenging the old stereotypes of the past century. This is exciting.

Yeah. I've been trying to look through clips on YouTube, but aside from a very bizarre short film in which Alan Rickman grinds up and snorts children's teeth, I'm mostly finding interviews rather than actual acting. May have to watch Broadchurch.

Eh. I will reserve judgement on her acting, since I have never seen her in anything, but she doesn't look like someone who could convince me she was the Doctor in a female form.

I dunno. Some of the interviews I've seen just now aren't terribly Doctor-ish, but in the couple seconds we have her in the teaser the Beeb released, she seems to have the right aura about her to me.

I'm indifferent to Whittaker. My concern is that Chibnall will thoroughly bugger up Who (And his record on previous scripts isn't exactly promising) so a female Doctor will be packed up along with all his other ideas into the "DO NOT USE" box.
